Does the nonchronological order of the posts bother anyone besides me?

I wonder if I am alone in finding it annoying that the most recent post is not always at the end of the thread.  Is there something I am not aware of?  Is there a setting for the format?  If others feel the same way I do, does this site take suggestions for improvement?

Have a great day.

You can choose to respond to

You can choose to respond to a particular post or person within a thread so that's why sometimes a new post is not necessarily at the end.

You must reply to original post to have your post in order

I dislike that this message board site allows you to "reply" to the posters that comment within a "thread" instead of only the original poster. That is what causes the out of order posts. If you don't reply to the original post, it puts the reply directly under the person to whom you have chosen to reply to.

When you are logged in, the word "NEW" in red alerts you to new posts that are out of order, which is helpful but sometimes a message thread is pages long and it takes a while to "find" the new reply. Equally as annoying.

I'm not sure what we can do about it except try to remember to always reply to the original poster and not to subsequent participants in the discussion.

    They are in chronological order

But they appear according to what post the poster hit "reply" to. And the entire post gets moved to the top of the forum. They are indented by thread (according to which poster you are responding to).

It's not really so bad after you get used to it. Once you've read a thread, "New" goes away, and if you look at new posts (at the top of the forum) the word "New" will appear on posts you've never seen before so you can quickly find them.

It's probably whatever you get used to.

One of the big problems is posters often randomly hit the "reply" button (usually at the bottom of the thread) and respond to the wrong person, then somebody else comes along and responds to the "right" person (the first person) and then they get intermingled. I think this is more of what is causing the "problem" you see, i.e. intermingled posts with different dates. It's supposed to keep replies together with the person being replied to.

For most posts, it's really not too bad. However, I agree on multi-page posts with replies not grouped together properly (because many users have hit reply to the wrong person), it does get confusing.

    good answer Todd

Yes, it takes some getting used to...But we've been reading them for a long time so it is easier to follow.

    Smart Patients

I could never get used to the way the conversations there are being displayed. I finally stopped reading there. It's supposed to be "better". Maybe I just got used to this first, and now I don't want to get used to something different. Of course since I'm in remission/NED, my motivation for reading is less than before. I mainly come here to get/give emotional support and to keep in touch with my tribe. :) And, there is that part where I've gotten to know and like some of you guys.

    Thats twice

that you gave the same comment that I would have Todd. I don't use smart patients because after a career in health care, I know how to get any clinical info I need. I wanted to get away from clinical talk. Second, I had accepted the fact that I was going to die. So I stayed here for the commraderie and to offer my outlook and experience to others. It seems to me that in my 3 years here, there has been a shift in the type of forum membership. New members have  much greater odds than we did. So many new drugs are becoming available. I thank god that I didn't have my cancer 10 years ago. Also that I was pushing 60. Not 30. My old friends seem to be dwindling though.
