Swith to Carboplatin (Inject from IV port ) instead of cisplatin (from IP port)

Hi:

One of my oncology call me today. I am schedule for chemo next week. Originally they are plan to use Taxol (First day from my chest port)  and Cisplatin (second day IP chemo, direct to my abdomen) but my doctor consider the side effect and other issue it may occur in the future. She decided switch to Carboplatin (Inject from IV) instead.

Does any one done Carboplatin chemo (inject from IV ) before ? Can you please give me some advise.

    I had six cycles of Taxol and Carboplatin (every three weeks) from a port in my upper left chest area.  I experienced fatigue, loss of appetite for about the first four or so days after chemo, constipation (from the Taxol), low white blood cell counts and I lost my hair (from the Taxol I think).  Although nausea and vomitting are potential side effects with carboplatin, I did not have any nausea at all, probably due to the fact that I received anti-nausea meds with the taxol/carbo.  Plus, I had anti-nausea pills at home, just in case.  The day after each cycle, I received a Neulasta shot to combat the low white blood cell count.  The shots helped me.  Hopefully you have met with a chemo nurse or oncologist who explained all of the potential side effects and how to manage them if they should occur.  I mostly felt the side effects for about the first week after each cycle,  After that, I felt pretty good for the next two weeks.

    The thought of chemo can be really scary but for me, chemo was doable.  Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers your way.

    I'm on it now along with a study drug. Neuropathy and fatigue are my big side effects. Some constipation but I take soft gels starting the day before until I get over that. Last infusion I held onto ice packs just during the carbo infusion part. They say it shrinks the capillaries in your hands ans causes less neuropathy of fingers.
