Vaginal Bleeding

in Anal Cancer #1

Hello friends ... has anyone had spotting and vaginal bleeding post radiation therapy?  Specifically those who are post menopausal.  i've had little brown spotting and when I used dilator had bright red bleeding, no pain.  Anyone every have this issue?  I'm 3.5 year out from treatment and 4 years since last menstral cycle.

I've never been able to have comfortable sex since treatment and I have not been good about using my premarin cream.  I just left my vagina alone ... now this.

I called gynecologist and oncologist ... I just had a normal CT scan.

Any experiences with this out there?

    Could this spotting be related to using the dilator?  I sometimes experience that after using mine.  I also find that not keeping up with my Vagifem tablets can cause some spotting.  Your irregular use of the premarin might be the problem.  I think if you look up premarin on the internet, you'll find that spotting and vaginal bleeding can both be side effects.  I hope everything is fine and that your doctors will confirm this.

    Hi, I am a little over 3yrs post treatment as well and yes I have had occasional spotting or bleeding.  I do not use any hormone creams as I am also 2yrs post surgery for breast cancer and still take a daily med to treat the actions of estrogen in my body.  I use the dilator on a regular basis and don't notice the bleeding as relating to such, its more like random and for no explained reason.  I am not sexually active at this time either so ????? When this first happened about a year and half ago my doctor seemed concerned but yet stated it to be fairly common. Scans have shown everything to be ok along with pelvic exams so I have decided not to worry unless this becomes more frequent per my docs advice. I have only had noticable bleeding a few times but do wear a pad 24/7 and would say there is some very slight blood tinged discharge on a regular basis. I also have a loop ostomy which results in a daily mucas discharge so becomes kind of a mixed mess, thus the 24/7 pad. See what your gyn and onc think but I'm willing to bet this is just another normal result of the journey through anal cancer, treatment and recovery!

    Martha ad Katheryn ... I so appreciate your support.  The Triage Nurse called me back and will attempt to get an appointment next week as I'm traveling right now.  Things like this always happen at the most inconvenient time (not that there's a good time, but it would be nice to be at home).  I guess I just want to stop thinking every ache, pain, bleeding, etc., is cancer.  Does it ever go away?

    Its funny how our minds work. Many of us may actually be healthier now than we were before being diagnosed. I never gave much thought to me getting cancer 4 years ago. My mom died of ovarian cancer 9 yrs ago and I did become more concerned but not overly as she had other health problems as well.  Now I have had 2 primary cancers in the past few years, have scars where my breasts used to be, have a colostomy on my once firm abs, and deal with lasting effects of radiation and meds.......kind of hard for the thoughts of cancer showing its ugly face again to completely go away. But, that being said, at least for me, and we are all different, these thoughts have taken their place further in the back of my mind and some days are not there at all. I feel well and keep busy and like to think that when and if I have to cross that bridge again I can do it with confidence and strength and I have no intention of letting worry about the "what ifs" ruin the "what is" (which is all the good stuff) that I have right now.

    Vaginal Bleeding

    I have some vaginal blood spots on and off and now more blood lately. I have an appointment tomorrow. Wonder how yours turned out. All be well.
