Ovarian cancer recurrence

in Ovarian Cancer #1

Hello... after 5 years cancer survivor,  on March 2014  my cancer recurrence. the ct scan told I develop tumor  in 4 cm and the tumor was blockage left kidney. With my limited English I' m trying to find information and a person who probably having similar issue with me to educated me with all the chemo and radiation. What best treatment for case like this. My ca 125 was 128 Which normal is 35. Next week thee urology doctor will surgery me to put the stent to bladder. Pls advise me in this matter. Sorry for my English.

    I am so sorry that you've had a recurrence.  I don't have any experience with this but I hope others on this board will respond to you.  Please don't hesitate to ask your doctor questions and when you go to your appointments, you should bring along a trusted friend or family member.  The other person can help you to remember the questions you want to ask and can take notes to help you remember what is said to you.

    Welcome to CSN honeybee

    I am very sorry about your recurrence. If your original ovarian cancer was high-grade and because you had a long remission, you are considered platinum-sensitive and will probably be offered to repeat Taxol / Carboplatin chemo. Radiation is rarely done for recurrent ovarian cancer.

    I don't have experience with kidney blockage and stent surgery. If you re-post on "Kidney Cancer" discussion board, many knowledgeable people there will guide you. There is a lady on "Uterine Cancer" board who recently had the same procedure.

    Dear Honeybee:

    I just recently went through something similar.   My ct scan showed a soft tissue mass which had grew.  I had a PET Scan and my mass went from a 2.9 cm to a 6 cm although the SUV readings were a 3 (within limits).    The mass was starting to constrict my left ureter which in turn can cause kidney damage.   I did go to the urologist for getting a stent to ease some of my pain, but he indicated that I wasn't exhibiting sufficient symptoms to put in a stent.   I was given Vitiman D because I when I was tested it was only a 14.   The vitamin D has eased some of my pain.   Because the mass had grown, I just went for a CT guided biopsy on the mass.   The pathology came back negative for malignancy. (Yeah!)  Although I still may have to have surgery to remove the mass.  I will find out once I meet with my oncologist again.

    What kind of symptoms are you having?   Please get all information with regard to the stent.  Stents have to be replaced frequently (I think every 3 or 4 months) from what others have told me.  Also, are they going to remove the tumor?   I was told that if it was cancerous, that when they removed the mass that they would do radiation while I was on the table.

There are so many things that change your body after cancer...as Gilda said.  " if it ain't one thing it's another "  some ladies on this board have had kidney issues as well and are being treated with  success ....stay strong..val
