Lab Test

Hi All..!  Yes we all know the value of Lab Tests, post surgery..  BUT, so far there are no blood tests as an early indicator for Kidney Cancer like there is for some other Cancers.

So, on my first Oncology visit at Stanford, one of the assistants told me she wished she would of gotten to me before surgery.  She was doing some research to try and find some kind of blood test indicator of Kidney Cancer (and perhaps some other Cancers).

OK, so for those that have yet to have surgery please ask about this very topic, as we all know that early detection often yields a better result.  I think many of us that had large tumors would of greatly benefitted from such a test.  After all, they will be doing blood tests pre-surgery anyway.. giving a little more won't hurt..

Just me thinking out loud..

Hi Ron,

I am still waiting for my surgery (I just called the specialist's office and the office manager told me that I am close to the top of the list and it will probably be a couple more weeks before I have it). My tumor is very large...but I am not quite clear on what you are getting at? I did have a bunch of bloodwork done in October....haven't heard anything about it.

Thanks for your input!

Hi JoJo...  I am talking about being a test patient..  This would only be done with / through a researcher.  Depending on where you are at,etc.  You may wish to ask your Doctor about it.. there may or may not be someone doing this kind of research in your area.

It would be a separate blood test, my best guess is one test before and one test after surgery.  The researcher would be looking for something different.. and something to compare "normal" blood to.  I am not smart enough to give much more details.. but it would not hurt to ask and you may be helping those that end up our way.. so to speak.

Ron
