26 with breast cancer, going strong but have questions about blood in stool

Options

Hello, my name is Jessica. I am 26 and was diagnosed with breast cancer in August. I have had to rounds of chemo and I've been handling it well. Had good news yesterday and my tumor has shrunk and is a lot softer. Last Thursday I had chemo and during I had a bowl movement. I was kinda constipated and pushed a little more than i should.  There was barely blood on the tissue. I mean I've had that before chemo. So then I didn't have a bowl movement for three days ( I also had a cold and didn't eat as much ) during that bowl movement it hurt really bad. Like I tore something from Thursday. Well after I was done there was blood on the tissue. Mainly on the tissue slightly in the water but not in the stool. So I called my oncologist and she said that it was from being constipated And to take senokot or similar and miralax. Well i had targets version of senokot already and took two pills that night and the next day I went and it still hurt but a little less and there was a little bit of blood but better and then that night I took two more pills and the next day I went and there was barely blood and the pain was better. Well then the past two days i didn't take the senokot and I just bought miralax but I haven't taken it yet and so I went to the bathroom because i had to go and it hurt and then I saw blood on the tissue like the first time and the I looked in the toilet and the water was a light pink which was blood in the toilet more than any other time. I'm freaked out and I'm sure I will call a doctor but I've been freaking out over everything little thing because I am super paranoid during chemo. Could it just be because I didn't continue the senokot and didn't take the miralax yet that I'm back at the beginning? Also i have been in a committed relationship for three years and haven't had intercourse in over a month and recently did last night with protection. Intercourse is okay right? The doctors just said not to have intercourse the first 48 hours.

So sorry to hear you are dealing with cancer.  It's not an easy road, but you will get through it one step at a time.

About your concerns, talk to your doctor.  I can tell you that when I had chemo, I had to take a laxative and metimucal before every round of chemo. The prep helped prevent constipation. As for sex, I used protection.  My doctor said sex was fine as long as protection was used.

I wish you well on your road to recovery.

    Hello, thank you for

Hello, thank you for responding. I took my miralax and stool softener and wanted to see how a bowl movement was before I called my doctor and it was fine. There was no blood or anything. I feel a lot better. I thank you again and hope all is well with you :)

    Good to Hear.

It's good to hear the miralax and stool softner did the trick for you!  Chemo is more than enough to deal with without having to add constipation to the mix.  Stay Strong, stay Focused!

    ... been there ...

ugh . terrible side effort that I dealt with thru out my entire -- chemo therapy.   Please try to keep track of bowel movements, or lack of (I know this is difficult, as we Chemo Queens have so many side efforts, and multiple issues) ..  talk to your Oncologist and see what he/she recommends..  if no recommendation is given ...  YOU, can  offer a solution (i.e. Bella Luna's).

    Try to be very consistent

Try to be very consistent about taking some sort of laxative. i found miralax to be helpful, I found the constipation from chemo like no other , and it caused me some after effects that werent too pleasant. so try to eat foods that help with this and also to be on a bowel regime, such as Ines said.
