in Breast Cancer #1

Hi All ,

Just wanted to let everyone know that my wifes path report was not bad, two out of 15 lymph nodes were positive, we knew one was positive going into things as it was located on the original ultra sound. This was the sentinel node, one other sentinel node showed isolated cells meaning under 200 cells in that node but all other nodes below and around those two were clear. NO other tumors were found in the right  breast other than the two we knew about when she was orginally diagnosed and nothing was found in the other breast. Of course we would have loved for no nodes to be involved but we knew at least one was going into this and minimal involvement in the other is OK as they are both out now. Her Surgical Onc said she was happy with this and this was very managable. She will be refering with the VCU medical oncology team to see if they are going to do rads to the area or do no further treatment other than Tamoxofem as she is ER+.  So in a nutshell we are OK with 2 out of 15. Anyone else have a similar situation ? Thanks again everyone for your contunied support to a BC husband and the ride on the bus this morning. God Bless.

    Thanks for the up date...

    I am so glad the the news wasn't worse... I also am ER+ and PR+ and will have to do Hormone Therapy after surgery...(That should be called Anti-Hormone Therapy) As I stated before I will have a Bilateral mastectomy on 4/26/13 and will also have a sentinel node biopsy... So it sounds that our cases are simular.. My cancer is also in the right breast, nothing in the left. My tumor measures 1.8cm and invasive.  I could have oppted for a lumpectomy but at my age didn't like the percentage of recurrance. I felt a double was a safer bet... I wish her a speedy recovery... God Bless You Both!... And Dennis She is one lucky lady to have you... My husband is also amazing!!!! We are luck girls!

    happy for you, thanks for sharing your story. I heard radiation therpay is much easier then chemo

    Path report

    Hi Dennis,

    I am so happy the path report came back better than you expected.  When doctors use the word manageable that's good.  I hope her treatments are over now and the only thing she has to do is take tamoxifen.  That would be great, but please make sure to ask about support groups or individual counseling for your wife if indeed her treatments are completed.  You said she was dealing with depression from this and so did I. After everything was over is when I really needed to come to terms with what just happened.  You have done everything perfectly so far, so please don't forget this final step.   Hopefully this final step starts now.

    I am so glad it came out well. I had a lumpectomy five years ago, I did not want a mastectumy I did do radiation afterwards. Everything was fine for five years. After five years I recieved Angiosarcoma cancer, that is cancer from the radiation treatments I recieved five years ago.It is rare few get it, but there is no treatment that stops it. I have been through a lot with this cancer a mastectomy and a lot more. Just ask your doctor to explain all side effects of radiation treatments to you. I  am so glad your wife done well. Hugs for you both.

    This is good news

    This is good news.Better than you thought it would be.But we always think the worse.

    I'm glad you got the good report that fast.Usually it takes a few days or a week or so.Then we all worry with the waiting.

    My friend had 3 nodes involved and she is a 18 year survivor.Pushing 19 years. She had a lumpectomy with Stage 3 cancer.
