I must have missed the line where they were handing out sewing/crafty/creative genes in heaven -- I have NO aptitude whatsoever for making things myself, so am always in awe of the time and creativity and skill that goes into projects like these beautiful quilts.
They are ALL so BEAUTIFUL!! Your talents are incredible!! They are even more special because they are handmade and unique..not made in India, China, or some other country. I assume they are made with love and obviously lots of talent!!! What a beautiful craft you are continuing in your family!! Wish I could order one!!! (Unfortuneately it would sit in a box because I have a dog that jumps on all our couches and sleeps in bed with us so she would muddy them in a hurry!!)
I always wanted to make a real quilt. Not the machine ones but I would be happy to even learn those. I do needle work but have not tried the quilting. Yours are beautiful. Thank you for showing them.
I thought I posted on this last night, but I guess not. I've been having a lot of trouble with the site lately.
Is the embroidery and applique on your quilts done by hand? They're just breathtaking. I'm not sure I have the patience to do all the hand work, or even machine embroider. Keep sharing your photos, maybe I'll get inspired! I'm in the middle of upholstering my dinette chairs. I'm really good with the staple gun! Bam!
The embroidery and applique is done by hand. Mom stripped them using her sewing machine. Then her quilting club hand quilted them. The quilting club is so neat. Independance Quilt club is held in the one room Incdpendance School house just outside of Stockton Missouri. My Mom and a number of the members went to school there. Every year they make a quilt and sell chances on it. Then at the Pie Supper they draw the lucky winner. I'll see if I have some pictures and post them.
I too have enjoyed quilting over the years, but find more time these days for rescuing items from yard sales and estate sales and putting my "twist" on them to revamp and refresh them for myself or for friends~
