Since we have "newbies" thought we could share where we're from....
Illinois here born and raised!
Northern jersey here
Born in CT but have been in SW Virginia for almost 40 years now.
The gorgeous (if extremely smoky) state of Idaho! (Born and raised in Chicago). When I yell, "Bad dog!" it comes out in southside Chicagoese, which my 19 year-old daughter has inherited. She yelled it at a muddy pawed jumper last week and got laughed off the face of the earth for her "accent."
NYS (near Poughkeepsie)
lived her all my life (53yrs)
Born & raised in West TN, currently living in Middle TN, been here ten years and love it!:)
I, too was born and raised in the Chicago area.
Finally have cooler weather here.
I was born and raised in IL, I now live in Marion Iowa for 6 years due to work and can't wait to get back home to Illinois! Miss it like crazy - they're much friendlier there! My kids and friends are "back home"!
I now live in Mesa, AZ, but lived in Oak Ridge for 5 years. My parents live in Crossville.
Nashville, Deb. My sister (also a BC survivor) lives in Clinton, just a few miles from Oak Ridge.
My mom was born and raised in Clinton. I'm related to half the town. How long has your sister lived there? Does she remember the Twins cafe? They were my great aunts. They are the only family members that I knew that with breast cancer. They were identical twins and had it at the same time in their 80s. They survived and died of something else. Docs have never said their cancer put me at risk (even after diagnosis) because of their age when diagnosed.
I need to get back there soon to see my parents. Maybe we can meet up somewhere!
We have gone on vacation to Tennessee Cyndi, around Gatlinburg and Seiverville. It's so beautiful there and we always had a wonderful time!
Hi, I'm fairly new here and don't post as often as I'd like to. I was born in Phila. 58 years ago, and live in Cherry Hill, NJ, about 12 miles east. I was diagnosed on Friday the 13th, Jan 13, this year with invasive ductal carcinoma, Stage II, had a bilateral mastectomy on March 4, and am doing herceptin every 3 weeks. (I did the Taxotere and Carboplatin bit and hated every minute of it.)
The depression and anxiety have been tougher for me than the pain (although Neulasta was pretty horrible), so it's been great for me to talk with all of you on the board. I have a husband and 2 sons, but they don't know what it's like and I couldn't expect them to.
Best wishes for health and happiness for all of us.
Florida born & raised. Altamonte Springs, just north of Orlando
47ronin....Hang in there - and we are here to support you 24 hours a day!
Good post-where's everyone from?
I lived there from age 11 to 21....went to Cherry Hill High West..graduated in '69....met my husband there...married 43 years....grown kids and 4 grands...in spite of fighting the beast for 3 years, life is good!
Rebecca I'm a Buckeye by birth..all my extended family still there...going "home" in October for our yearly reunion.....
The depression and anxiety were the worst part of the whole shebang for me, as well. If you are still in the middle of it, don't despair. It takes a lot of time, but it does get better. Things happen, like a broken toe heals, and all of a sudden, faith in your body is reborn, if just for a moment. These moments, moment by moment, add up. I needed a lot of help with my anxiety and depression - therapy, exercise, friends, this website, medication - I through the works at it.
Maybe time has been the most effective healer, I don't know. I will wish peace for you. xoxoxo Lynn
Thanks so much for the encouraging words. Yeah, I'm trying medication and exercise too. We went through something like this before when one of my kids had leukemia, and we came out of it, so I know we'll get through this.
Best wishes, Pat
San Fran 30 yrs, now an hour from St Louis, MO
I have some cousins in Cherry Hill! You can do this. Some great docs there but its difficult to find cancer center type care. Hope you are getting what you need. The guys have a hard time getting it sometimes, I KNOW! Have a cheesesteak or a cannoli or both and be good to yourself. This place is awesome. Just vent away and ask away, someone will always be back with what you need to know.
You are a little younger than me, but went through all this and more in 2003. It is totally doable girl.
Ha, cheeseteak and cannoli, breakfast of champions! I'll eat some Tastykake Krimpets and a soft pretzel in your honor!
Seriously, many thanks for the kind thoughts and words. Pat
cupkakes and juniors for me!
