Question

I don't have ovarian cancer, my dx was appendix cancer but had a scare in April thinking the cancer had spread to ovary so my right ovary was removed. Anyway, this surgery in April combined with the surgery last year on appendix/colon put me into menopause. Not on any hrt right now but started Remifemin about 6 weeks ago. Was beginning to feel better, hot flashes/night sweats decreased in intensity and frequency and anxiety wasn't as bad - no symtoms stopped but they weren't as bad until about 10-14 days ago when they all ramped up to high gear again. My new oncologist ordered blood tests (including one for the thyroid) - get the results on Tuesday this week. My question is, surely with all the ladies here who had surgery/hysterectomy/oophrorectory (sp) someone here also must be struggling with menopause brought on by surgery, I can't be the only one?

Some other background info: I'm 52 so definitely am due for menopause but everything was normal until the surgery last June 2011 - have only had 2 periods in the past 14 months (these 2 periods happened 21 days apart in Feb/Mar and triggered the right ovary removal). Nothing since that time.

Guess I just would like to know if anyone else is suffering with this and what did you do, if anything, about it. Thanks, Ruffy

I have kept my hot flashes and night sweats under control with accupuncture and Chinese Herbs.

My hot flashes are not that bad. I have one a day if that. When I first had my surgery I was having them all the time and couldnt sleep. My doctor has me on ativan to help me sleep and I sleep like a log. i gotta be honest I don't know if I am having night sweats or not. lol. As for hot flashes during the day. They are very minimal

Well not the thyroid and, for some odd reason, I'm bummed that it's not! Guess it's menopause and have appt next week to see the gyn about starting hrt - didn't want to do it but I just can't live like this. I'm actually looking forward to winter and cold so it will feel good. I've been really bummed lately because I have horses and, due to the hot weather, I haven't been able to stand riding or even spending much time with them. :( Just venting, I know there are so many people here who have it worse then me but MENOPAUSE IS KICKING MY BUTT!!!! lol, thanks for listening :)

Ruffy,
I would suggest you check with a naturopath before starting HRT. I don't know whether hormones affect appendix cancer, but I know that colon cancer is ALWAYS about estrogen - according to my naturopath. There are effective alternatives.
