types of ovarian cancer

Hello All,

I have a question. Does anyone know about poorly differentiated papillary serous carcinoma of the ovary. This is the type of cancer that my mom has. She had her surgery on 2-21-12 with a complete hysterectomy and partial bowel removal. She now has a colostomy.

Her actual surgery went well but her recovery has been very rocky. She spent 3 1/2 weeks in the ICU and several more in a step down unit before she was even discharged, with 1 repeat hospital visit for fluid in her lungs and stomach. After all of that, she was very weak and is in rehab to build her strenght up before the oncologist will even start her chemo.

I just want to know if anyone knows anything about this type of ovarian cancer? Also is it common for a person to start chemo much later after surgery. We were told that her body was too weak to handle the chemo. Also her gyn/oncologist said that he starts his patients chemo 4-6 weeks after their surgery so that their body can heal. But once she is able to do the basics she can start her treatment.

This is outside of my area so I'm asking the community for help and clarity. Happily my is doing inpatient rehab. She is eating about 50% of her meals, and is doing well with her therapy.

Again, thanks for your help.
Sincerely
