Fofiri advice

My husband is scheduled to start Folfiri this week. He has already had 6 cycles of Folfox which he handled quite well with very little side effects. I am wondering what to expect with the folfiri. Is it about the same or worse? He just had liver resection 4 months ago and the cancer is already back in his liver. He was supposed to have his surgery for his rectal tumor next week but they have cancelled it due to the liver issues. I have no idea what to think about this except extreme sadness that that horrible liver surgery that caused him so much pain and suffering did not remove all the cancer and while they were treating his primary tumor the cancer came back in his liver. So so sick of cancer. Any advice on folfiri would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Hugs, Teri

    Hey Teri...
When I was first DX back in 2009 I was put on Folfiri. I had just has colon resection but mets had already gone to 4 in liver and 15+ in both lungs. After 6 months of Folfiri ALL were gone. I was NED and the ones in the liver have never returned! Knock on wood!!!! I have never been on Folfox so I cannot compare but the worst side effect of Folfiri for me was diarrhea. I was very pleased with the success of Folfiri.

    spot liver lung
Hello idlehunters, have just read your blog, was so surprised that the chemo worked on the spots on your liver and lung, my husband dx aug 2010, had surgery then after 6mth chemo ct showed one spot on liver and lung, but also peritoneum cancer, 6mths chemo then 3 mths break, having ct scan 18th so hoping the chemo has worked on the liver and lung, like for you. Carry on the fight. x

    hello
hello Teri, first you need to remember that each person is different, me and my family history show a real bad time with any chemo i am on the folfiri right i have only just had my for round which i am in the middle of right now, the biggest issue is the diarra but i have a very short colon so there is nothing they can give me for it we have tried the most i can say is make sure you have a real good care team cause mine is not so great the nurses are tring harder the the doc which is never a good thing but. anyway i hope your husband's exp. is better then mine and i will pray for you all.
