Calcium and magnesium for oxaliplatin-related neuropathy
Hi: I took (still take) calcium and magnesium - the cancer centre here in London (Ontario) will give it to you intravenously during chemo if you ask. I also take L-glutamine and alpha lipoic acid and never had a problem with neuropathy or cold intolerance (I had 12 treatments of oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU). I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but it worked for me and is still working. But everyone is different.

Ca & Mg for neuropathy - yes!
I agree. did my own research (NIH library of med) end of 2011 and there was enough there to suggest that taking supplements might help. also, the supplements which westie66 mentions. my ONC was not enthusiastc about infusions when I mentioned - to my dismay she cited a discredited study which suggested problems with infusions.

My onc gives it with certain chemo's as a matter of routine, I was surprised to find out not everyone did. However, I heard that it helped a lot with drinking cold water and such, but I would usually still be about 7 days before I could, at first it was about 4 days, but it slowly took longer before I could have that sip of cold cool water. I was just one of the unfortunate I guess that didn't get all the benefits from it, but I'm sure without it, it would have been MUCH WORSE, so glad I had it.

I was not aware of it
Till after I was done with oxi. Now that I am back on folfox I see my doc includes it as part of the treatment.

    Oxi Neuropathy
Hi: I took a calcium/magnesium pill once a day (too much magnesium can give you constipation) but here in Canada you can get it as an infusion during chemo. I also took 5-10 grams of L-Glutamine in juice and 1 pill of alpha lipoic acid 3 times a day. Worked for me as I never had problems with neuropathy, cold intolerance, first bite syndrome, after the first FOLFOXIRI treatment.
