Hi, I started this thread so that we could be sure to get you answers to your question about insurance and hospital stays.

If you can give us some specifics such as...have no insurance...have insurance but can't get them to cover costs...can't cover costs not paid by insurance...or whatever the case may be, I am sure that someone on here has had an experience and found help, and would be glad to share it with you.

Does your screen name mean that you are a friend of our friend "Buckwirth", aka Blake? If so any info you may have on him would be appreciated.

    as I have read his posts, they are eerily similar to a friend of mine who also has colorectal cancer but who has not stepped out into this cyber world.
    Buckwirth was someone I followed for my friend since they both have very dry senses of humor, and now since I have not seen many of his posts I decided to just question the group.
    Insurance is now challenging the last hospital stay, my friends have private insurance.
    It's not easy to manage the treatment maze, much less try to work the insurance maze at the same time.
    Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Very nice of you to do this for your friend. Not all are comfortable in this cyber world, but you have stopped in at a site where folks really do want to help as they fight their own battle.

    As to the insurance thing, again the devil is in the details. You say the insurance is challenging the last hospital stay...over?...not necessary?...exceeds some pre-established limit?.

    At the hospital there should be an insurance advocate...someone who knows the ropes with the major insurance providors and who can try to get the paperwork straight to get the claim to go through...assuming there is no limit issue. If not at the hospital, contact the local American Cancer Society and perhaps they will have a recommendation for contact.

    Hope that your friend is getting bestest care.

    But you seem to have that function turned off.

    Marie is correct about using the hospital resources, but it is not uncommon for the insurance co to ask for further information, usually coming in the form of a denial on EOB that is sent to the patient. My first advice is to relax, the patient is NOT responsible for providing the information, that is the duty of the hospital and attending physicians, both of whom know that if the can't collect from insurance they are not likely to collect from the patient.

    Reach out for someone at the hospital, and check with the attending doc, but give this about 60 days and it should just work itself out.
