I'm researching a good audio (CD, itunes, whatever) meditation for pain management. So far I've come across a CD called "Mindfullness Meditation for Pain Relief" by Jon Zabit-Zill (US$12.14 for 2 CD-set -- the first CD is mostly information, the second mostly the meditations). The reviews etc look good. But before I buy it, I thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with it, and/or any other recommentations.

I'm also considering acupuncture for pain management -- experiences? (I'm beginning to get some pain from my bone mets -- having been symptom free since diagnosed with them over 18 months. Hopefull the symptoms will begin to resolve once I resume chemo -- in just a couple of weeks. But, I want to do this research now and get prepared.

Thanks in advance

Tara

Tho I don't know the CD,
Tho I don't know the CD, Jon Kabat-Zinn has an excellent reputation for his mind-body work. I know if I were looking for a meditation CD, this would be very high on my list of choices.

i have seen it work on a friend with bones met
    Hi tara,

I also used it for myself, and on my kids and friends. I think it works pretty well.

Practice makes perfect, meditation is fantastic anyway, so give it a try.

I was taught the practice, actually we had it demonstrated by ruth gawler on the 10 day retreat i did.

good luck, I will follow this post. I hope it helps you. I cannot refer you to anything online, sorry. Except I know gawler's are running a mind body online thing starting this month.

    hugs,
    Pete

    Tara,
I used relaxation response during Folfox on my 5FU Pump Days for naseau because the three drugs I tried lowered my blood pressure and I "felt wiped out" and too ill to do much of anything. I based this on the breathing, focal point, and relaxation response I used during delivery of my two sons in the mid 1070's. Used no drugs during delivery and have used the response through the years for immunizations, dentist etc. The Nurse Educator at the Mayo Cancer Center in Rochester MN makes CD's available and teaches the technique. They also have a Tai Chi DVD and she recommended "move up a notch" with TAi Chi. So I am doing Tai Chi for balance both physical and emotional.

Just had a scan to rule out distant nodes to the left side of my face due to a feeling of numbness across the face, teeth feeling like dental drilling, sinus pain, jaw pain extending to the inner ear and of sensation swelling around the left eye. I notice this is temperature related. Cold causes the sinus and bone around the eye to feel like frostbite. Next week I meet for my CEA reading (another story) with the P.A. and plan to try acupuncture. The oncology nurse who flushed my port said they have seen improvement with acupuncture.

I will let you know if acupuncture helps the jaw and sinus pain and eye socket and facial numbness.

    thanks -- and in return
Thanks all for the suggestions/comments. Looks like the Zabit-Zill might be a good investment.

For those looking for a more general meditation tape (CD, itunes, whatever) -- not specifically focused on pain but v. good indeed, I can highly recommend Susie Mantell; Your present: a half hour of peace...". I was pretty much a newcomer to meditation and it was great for me.

    Any mindfulness work you can
Any mindfulness work you can do will only benefit you. Music therapy, meditation, hatha yoga.....really, any good coping, calming strategy in your corner.
