My fathers PET SCAN

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
Well so far my father has had 2 PET SCANS since his radiation and chemo ended back in August, and they both have been NED. I am soo elated I, i, I just am soo HAPPY! However, something still reminds me that this nasty disease still has the chance to come back... several years down the road.... He has another PET SCAN in 2 weeks, and i hope that one turns out NED as well.

    I think we probably always have that tiny nagging voice that says it could come back but we must look forward to each day with a smile and the knowledge that at least for today we are NED

    Yes, that is the truth. I spent most off yesterday and most of today with him. i told him this afternoon, "Well Dad, i can garantee that this year is going to be better than the last!!." He replied, "I sure hope so." he still cannot swallow very well at all, and what he does swallow tries to come back up his nasal passages in the back of his throat I guess because his throat is still a little swollen... Day by day, thats how I will live it with him.....

    Has he had a swallowing evaluation/therapy? I've managed to teach myself to not spew everything out my nose when I swallow, but the techniques that assist with this are best taught by a speech pathologist, maybe after formal swallowing studies. Just saying, but this is something that he might want to seek out, as it will likely help his recovery progress.

    Great news....

    Yes recuurence is always a possibility, but I'm starting to be less apprehensive (other than scan time).
