A catheter for a colostomy, or a Foley catheter?

    Cranberry Juice
Hi Brenda, Sorry to hear about your husband's problem with the catheter. When I was in the hospital after a very long surgery, I had the same problem when they took out the catheter. The nurse made me some drink with cranberry juice and ginger ale, and it worked for me. She said they use it for all the woman who have c=sections and it works every time. I hope this works. Best wishes. Teri

I missed that the first few reads...

While three weeks post-op should be long enough, taking a Foley out
for an hour isn't going to mean a puddle of pee for evaluating his condition.

How many of us healthy(er) folks pee every hour or so? Oh sure, maybe
after a few too many beers, but normally not, right?

Tell them to leave it out for 1/2 day or so, and have him drink tea or
coffee, or any diuretic, and see what happens after a few hours or more.

Hasn't the surgeon provided any input about this? Just taking a nurse's
opinion doesn't really hold too much weight with this..

But..... three weeks post-op is a long enough time to have everything
working OK again. That Foley can play hell with bladder, and make
getting back to normal a bit tougher if it's left in too long. I'm surprised
they left it in that long!

Have 'em take it out for 4 or more hours, if he's been passing urine with it in,
    and see what happens.

But do contact that surgeon and ask his opinion!

Best wishes for good health and PP.
