low grade non hodgkins

Hi everyone, i was diagnosed last october with low grade nhl i was recalled after a mammogram as apparently it pickec up enlarged lymphnode in my right armpit, i had a ct scan and bone marrow biopsy last november, im on watch and wait and thankfully so far im doing good. I had a flu jab last thursday whicjh i thought id have to cancel as id had a cold but thankfully i managed to shake the cold off in a couple of days. When i went to bed on saturday night my left armpit felt very tender, my first thought wasnt the lymphoma starting but the flu jab and wondered if it was a side effect of that plus i was quite snuffly, i did ask a nurse friend of mine and she said not to worry it was more than likely the flu jab plus with my having had a cold it may have made the nodes a bit more sensitive, i know they can come up when youre not well. Has anyone else had experience of this after a flu jab? I did ask for the flu jab in the left arm as im right handed. I did take ibuprofen which stopped my armpit from hurting and it helped a great deal, its much bettr now. I was sent a letter from my surgery suggesting the flu jab as im in the "at risk" category. What annoys me is when im working in a shop i get customers coming in and coughing all over the place, i know i cant avoid all illnesses but it winds me up when others are so inconsiderate.

    Sore arm...
    Hi sparkygirl,
I had a very sore arm after my flu shot, but didn't experience any swollen nodes. It took 3 or 4 days for the soreness to subside. When the node on my groin first appeared in Jan of 2010 I thought nothing of it. Just figured it was a fatty cyst or something simple to explain. Once it was biopsied and FNHL was diagnosed, I was floored! I think if any kind of lump showed up on my body now, I would be in to see my doctor as quickly as possible. Right now while your doing the "watch and wait" you might want to give your doctor a call and let him decide if it's something to be concerned about. Better to be safe than sorry. Maybe during busy hours at the shop you should wear a mask to help keep those inconsiderate coughers from spreading their germs to you. You take care and let us know how things are going during your watch and wait time. Best wishes...Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)

    sore arm
Hi thanks for that, luckily my armpit has gone right down now, i will probably ring my specialist nurse and have a chat with her or even visit my gp, i know colds and infections can bring them up and i did have a cold before my flu jab and the flu jab made me snuffly so i wondered if that didnt help i know when i had my ct scan last november the o nly node that was up was in my left armpit but the doctor wasnt unduly worried, also my dad passed away last october and ive been spending a week with my mum on and off this year and doing a lot of running around and sorting things out for her and walking her dogs and weve had her with us for a couple of months at a time and ive been doing extra at work as my boss broke her ankle so ive had a lot of stress and have felt physically and emotionally drained at times, i havent had chance to grieve about dad as ive been looking out for mum and trying to keep strong for her. I will keep you posted. Thanks
