Thank-you everyone for making me feel better about my up coming mastectomy (sept.14), This is a great place to talk about your worries, everyone really understands what one is going through. If I knew how to answer each person individually I would since you have all given me some great advice. You's have made me feel less anxious, however I am really dreading the drains, though I know I will get through it. I will keep in touch and thanks again! Debbie

We will help you as much as we can. Just FYI, Reach To Recovery helped me a lot after my surgery. They gave me this little box with a soft prosthesis, a rope (to help me do gentle exercises), etc. The volunteer was very helpful in answering questions about breast forms and other practical tips. I think you need to get your physician to ok them coming?

    Don't forget
You are having a single mast. right? That way you can still sleep on your other side, and only have drains on that side. They weren't my favorite thing but they were manageable. Just be sure to get them closed after emptying!

Come back to us with any questions, we'll all be waiting to hear how it went,

    We're all there
Vicki Sam is right. We'll be overseeing your doctors and staff and partying with you when you're up to it. The drains aren't too bad, just a pain. Make sure someone shows you how to "milk" them before they sent you home so they don't get clogged.

    {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and prayers!

And don't be surprised if you see a big pink bus parked outside the hospital 'cause that's what we do. We'll try to keep the noise down though.

Sorry you have cause to be here, but glad you found us!

How did your surgery go? When you're able to shower...what to do with the drain(s)? What I did was found a really long sash or tie from a blouse. I tied the ends together (making it a loop) then I safety pinned the drain to it. Worked out ok enough.

Try not to use a red one though like I did - it took me a few seconds to realize it was just the dye/color running!!! ;)

    The drains
Remember that the drains are only temporary. It is a necessary short lived challenge but you will do just fine.
