HPV test ????

After my boys ragged me on fathers after I mentioned what had been said on here about HPV. I am wondering was it a standard test your Onco ran for you or what ?

    Negative, Here
After I asked about the possibility, doc had a biopsy sample tested (tissue that had already been removed).

    ENT
For me it was my ENT...he's the one that is the lead on my MD Team. He diagnosed me, removed the tonsils and has always been involved. He suspected HPV from day one, especially after learning I was not a tobacco user.

After the tonsils came out, He diagnosed me as STGIII SCC Tonsil Cancer, he also sent the tissue out for HPV tests and they came back positive.

I still see him every 4 months or so.

In reality, it doesn't matter that much, treatment is the same....

    Two tests
My ENT had them test the first biopsy and they found no HPV, although he was suspicious of that outcome given my profile (under 50, never smoked or drank, location of the tumor). But when they had a larger sample, from the tumor removal, the sample showed it was HPV. As others have said, my oncologist and radiological onc said it didn't really change the treatment approach--still be aggressive--but it changed the overall outlook after treatment.

    Thanks
Realised that treatment would not change (even thought the sorry for yourself does creep in occasionally) I was just curious . KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

    It Is What It Is
Ray, I can pretty much in all honesty say that that is one thing I never dwelled on. It is simply what it is...nothing I can do about it and nothing you can do about it either....

Studies and reports tend to suggest that HPV derived cancer responds well to chemo and treatment. But in reality, cancer is cancer, chemo is chemo.....unfortunatley there are no guarantees....

But realize any of us probably have a greater chance of being in some accident every day that have the same potential out come.

You are doing exceptonally well, and I predict that won't change...your attitude alone is one of the best medicines and therapy that you can have.

    Best,
    John
