Platelets

Options
I had CBC work today, white and red cell counts in normal range, my platelets are on the low side. Not enough to stop the next chemo infusion on monday. Onco nurse said the doc may decrease the dosage of chemo I receive. Has anyone else experienced an issue with their platelets?

Thanks,

Linda

    Hi Linda
Yes it is normal because if the Platelets are too low you could bleed and it will hard to stop, so there is a range in witch doctor will allow. They will normally sometimes stop treatment if the range falls to low or sometimes adjust your treatment accordance to the reading.

    Wishing you well

    Many Have Platelet Issues
Along with low white cell counts.

I did have to miss one chemo session during treatment, but was getting the happy juice again the next week.

    CBC
My WBC, RBC and platelets dropped pretty significantly during chemo, not enough to interefere, but platelets dropped from 202 to 88.

I did have Neulasta, but I believe that is more for raising RBC,not sure if it effects platelets or WBC.

    Here are my levels during treatment;

    Labs Reports Results

    2/6/2009 Before Chemo
    RBC 4.85
    WBC 6.3
    Pla 202

After 1st Chemo (Neulasta given the week before)
    2/27/2009
    RBC 4.73
    WBC 12.0
    Pla 96

    Week after everything chemo, chemo/rads
    7/1/2009
    RBC 4.1
    WBC 2.0
    Pla 88

    Nine months post
    3/3/2010
    RBC 4.62
    WBC 4.5
    Pla 162
