Progress for Luis

Options
Luis passed his swallow test yesterday and today the doctors took out his NG tube!! He is feeling so much better without the dreaded NG tube! They have begun him on clear liquids as well. He is only to take in 4 oz over 6 hours but he said he is glad to taste apple juice again.

Hopefully, the chest tubes will be removed tomorrow. They are increasing his tube feeds and decreasing the amount of fluids he is receiving by IV.

It has been a long week with some bumps along the way. He is making baby steps every day but he is headed in the right direction. Everything is looking like he may be discharged either Friday or Saturday.

We are hoping and praying for successful surgeries for Jeff, John and Nick this week. Glad everything went well with Niki and Jeff yesterday. We may get the chance to stop by and see Jeff Thomas on Friday.

    GREAT news!
Thank you for the update, Laura. Your good news helps me calm my nerves.

Hope you are well and able to care for yourself while you care for Luis. Don't forget how important YOU are in the great scheme of things also.

How wonderful if you would have a chance to see Jeff Thomas while still in hospital. I'm sure he would appreciate that visit.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm anxious for tomorrow to come quickly and go just as quickly. This has been the worst thing that we've never wanted, but couldn't wait for....

Congratulations to Luis & Jeff for leading the pack. Hoping for a speedy recovery! Prayers to those still coming - JeffT, John, Michael, and a new surgery - Bob. :) Our best to you all as well.

    Good to Hear
Good to hear that Luis is making headway on his recovery. I know that getting those tubes out will do wonders for his disposition (although reading about them threw some fear into me knowing that I'm going to undergo the same thing). You and Luis is in my continued prayers for a sppedy and complete recovery.

    What wonderful news
    Laura --

It's great to hear that Luis is progressing. Getting the chest tube out will be a major step -- my husband could hardly wait to get his out as it was causing more pain than anything else was!

Friday or Saturday will be here before you know it. Make sure you get some rest and take care of yourself over the next few days so you are strong and prepared to assume nursing duties at home!

    Great!!
    Laura,

Glad to hear that Luis is recovering so well!! It gives me things to look forward to :)

Jeff will probably move out of the ICU tomorrow, he moved from his bed to the chair today, and then took a lap around the ICU this evening. He is doing ok, pain is a bit hard to manage but he just keeps hitting his "button".

Hope things continue to improve for you!
