I don't know how many of you were and are in the way of Irene, but I sure am hoping you all survived with little or no damage. We are pretty far inland so didn't get too much. Anyway just hoping everyone is safe. Barbara

NH starting to get hit now.
We live in the SE corner of NH about 15 miles from the coast. Now at 10:30 am the wind is howling and torrential rain but much to my surprise we still have power and cable. From what I understand the worst will be between 2:00pm and 10:00pm. People in NH are not use to hurricanes so as you can imagine things are pretty crazy up this way. Now a northeaster blizzard would not be a big deal but a hurricane in NH is big news up here.

Stay safe and please post how things are going if you are affected by the storm.

My house not so lucky... Could have been worse...
I have two sump pumps for my finished basement... Each with high tech battery backups...that last 6 hours. Both failed. I'll be shop vac bound all afternoon....if we ever get power. Also lost a weeping willow I planted myself 11 years ago when we built the house....

It can always be worse ... Heard something about a tree falling on an 11 year olds bedroom.

This will give me something to do today besides worry.

Sorry you had the sump pump
Sorry you had the sump pump failure. Shouldn't have happened. Sounds like you have made it through without major issues. Glad for that. Hey. No need to worry. You're doing great and will continue to do so. Today is our 46th anniversary. Last year and a half ago, I didn't know if we would even have our 45th. So put your worry genes to good work being happy and thankful. You are blessed. Mary

    Thanks
Mary- thanks...well spoken. I still have 10 days to surgery so we booked a trip to fort lauderdale over labor day weekend. I plan on taping up my useless feeding tube and spending the whole time in the water with my 15 year old while my wife reads trashy novels on the beach. Congratulations on your anniversary! I am blessed... But sometimes it's hard to see the forest from the tree that fell in your front yard....I'm gonna put it up as my profile pic when we get Internet service.

    No problems in SE PA
Praise God! We didn't have any issues at all - no lost power, Internet, cable, phone, trees and no water issues! Just a nice distraction from focusing on upcoming surgery on Tuesday. Today is Luis' last "normal" day of eating for a while. Hoping I will be able to light up the grill tonight for steaks!

Only problem is Steve's, now my, sailboat dragged its mooring and got some superficial damage. Now that I'm the skipper of the boat, I get to be responsible for it. It's comforting, though, since I feel closer to him when I'm on the boat. People at the club have been fantastic, helping out, showing me the nitty gritty of what I need to know now.
And the damage is nothing that can't be fixed with a new piece of wood and some rubbing compound--maybe a bit of fiberglass filler. No big deal. Glad we didn't get stronger winds.

    Laura, hope you got those
Laura, hope you got those steaks on the grill. Yes it will be a while before he eats normal food. Hope everything goes well on Tues. Mr. Marshall must have lost power, hope that is the only problem. We lost power briefly when a tree came down on the power lines. I go back for another radiation tx. tomorrow. Can someone tell me if phenergan is better than compazine for nausea? My Dr. put me on compazine and zofran for the nausea from my xeloda, but it is not working very well. Will talk to him about it next week. Any information is appreciated. Barbara

    Good luck!
Hope you had a great dinner and that you have a very successful week! I'd say more, but we still have no power!

    Good luck!

    Compozene and Zofran
    Hi Topaz1947,

My husband was on a continuous 5fu pump which kept him somewhat nauseated for 5 weeks. We fought the nausea with small meals and of course meds. We first started with just zofran, but that wasn't enough. We then switched to a four hour rotating schedule of compozene and zofran. So he took compozene at 8am, then at 12pm zofran, then at 4 pm compozene, and so on until bed time. This worked very well for him, until the last week of radiation. We then got a prescription for lorazepam, this is a controlled narcotic so he would only take it once he came home from work and didn't have to drive. It worked because it made him sleep, can't be nauseous when you are asleep, right? Hopefully some of this will help!

    Forgot one thing!
Remember if you are taking nausea meds to have a good bowel regimen. Nausea meds can be very binding, and at first my husband found that he would get very uncomfortable bloating. He used 2 sennokot-s pills every morning to help with regularity. Sorry for the details, but it is very important to know.

Thank you for asking...we are all well in Central Virginia. We are far enough inland that it was a tropical storm for us! Praise the Lord!
