All…..
I just spoke with the Drs nurse and made my appt for the bronchioscopy……Here is what I know about the whole situation…
I have to be at admissions Thursday the 11th at 11:00 at Vandy……The scope and biopsy will be done at 1:00…Then I will be in recovery about 2 hours, then sent home…..Results will be back from pathology in about 3 days…Most likely Monday or Tuesday of the next week. The area is in the left Hilar region …It seems that there may be an enlarged node ( approx 2-3 cm ) or 2 side by side in that area that they are concerned with and want to do a scope and also take a biopsy to determine what we are dealing with……for some comfort I asked several questions about the situation of the nurse……I asked if the nodes could be removed, and yes they could the options were though right now is to see exactly what we are dealing with and take it from there…We can do chemo, surgery or both…Right now, I am still trying to gather info about the procedures involved , chemos involved etc…The more I know the better decisions I can make on what route to take in this. It’s going to be ok, it’s just another rock in the road………

I prepare for the worse and hope for the best....My calcium levels are high but so is my uptake...she indicated that it could be an infection or because of the calcium 'Histoplasmosis'...although I am pretty sure what we are dealing with...

in any event anyone that has encountered node involvement in this particular area I would like to hear something from....thanks to all of you..........buzz

    Dear Buzz
Prayers travel with you and during the procedure on Thursday.

I hope you have someone to travel with you, since you will have a bit of a drive home from Vandy. If not hope you will consider an overnight in the area just to make sure you are recovered from the anesthesia.

Take care friend and know that all here are rooting for best results.

    Dearest Clift,
You will be in my prayers. Hopefully it is at the most an infection which can be cleared up with some medicine. I pray it goes very smoothly for you and the outcome is positive news. I'm holdin' your hand buddy.....just like I said!

    Hugs,

    Pam

    my experiences
    Hey Buzz,

Great to get this update. I'm so glad you have a plan and it all sounds good (not fun! but good). "Gathering information", is what I tell myself -- Like you, I believe more information allows us to make the best possible decisions. Fingers crossed (and toes!) for the Best Possible outcome...

I haven't had node involvement in that area. But I have had both lung biopsy and brachioscopy. Since you said you are gathering information about the procedures involved, may I share my experiences? Lung biopsy (I was awake and no sedative whatsoever -- just a topical anesthetic. For your sake, I hope you are in La-La land!). I found it psychologically a little difficult ("they are sticking a needle into my lung now". But in truth it was no big deal -- lungs have no pain sensors! and the needle was very thin etc etc. For bronchioscopy -- I had bronchial lavage (two different times). Don't know if you'll be having that (mine was done 'instead of' a biopsy, when I had a spot they couldn't get at with traditional biopsy). Again, I have to be honest -- I found it psychologically challenging (I had bit of a sensation that I was going to 'drown' -- which of course was ridiculous -- I was in the hands of a lung specialist who had done this hundreds of times! I apologize if this seems like sharing a 'negative' experience -- my intention is a positive one -- "forewarned is forearmed"?? And of course everyone's reactions are different. I hope you breeze thro all! Advice: a little valium (or some such) would have greatly improved my experiences! (they tend to be a bit stingy with that in Hong Kong -- I feel like such a wimp when I grab the lapels of some young doc and demand it ;)

I will be thinking of you! Sending loving prayers and all best wishes your way

    Tara
