Abraxane and Avastin

Dear All

My wife has Stage IV secondary breast cancer ( http://www.clairefaulkner.co.uk )

We have come all the way over from England as the NHS ( National Health Service ) back there have basically told her that there is nothing else they can do, to the Burzynski clinic here in Houston, Texas.

The doctors have put together a plan that comprises of Abraxane/Avastin and Tarceva.

My wife is allergic to Taxol and i believe that the Abraxane is of the same family but composed differently, I would love to hear from anyone who is allergic to Taxol but has managed to have Abraxane and how they have found it.

Also trying to put my wife's mind at ease i would love to hear of other peoples stories regarding the combination of these drugs, their success rate and side effects.

    To learn of your wive's diagnosis...I have no personal experience with this combination of chemo drugs...I would advise you to question the oncologist about the use of Avastin... Here in the USA the FDA ( Food and drug administration) has pulled Avastin as a treatment for metastatic breast cancer...one treatment of Avastin is $88,000.00 US dollars....no price can be put on a life, but I would put this question to the oncologist who is formulating her treatment plan....he may have a way around using it....

    I think that is up to 100,000 per year for treatment.

    Christopher, as for your wife, I will pray that they can find something. I too light up like a Christmas tree and am on my second chemo regimen which will be evaluated in about 3 weeks to see if it is working. At this time they will recheck the bones and hopefully it has not hit the organs. I was told they can treat me, but at this point they can not cure me. But hopefully, if I can be treated long enough, I am hoping that at some point they will find treatment that will make stage iv a chronic treatable disease!
