tessa is home!

I am home from my 9 hour surgery. The Dr. removed all of my colon and took out 43 lymph nodes and all were negative of cancer. I did not have to have the illeostomy, my small intestines were attached to my rectum. My bum is so sore from going to the bathroom every fifteen minutes. I wonder if this will ever go away. any suggestins on what to use for comfort? My surgery was done laproscopically with a 5 inch incision below the navel. Tumor was 5cm x 4cm x 2m. I really don't understand all of this information yet as the dr has not discussed chemo. He is calling again tommorow.

I love you all!

Seems as though you and the surgeon did wonderfully......
43 and none were involved......that is enough to be very very excited about in its own...post op chemo may be to prevent anything that might have slipped out during surgery...that is something that you and your Onc will deal with at a later date.....the bum, well there are others in here that can direct you in that category.........buzz

    Sore
    Hi Tessa
I'm sure others will respond that have had their total colon removed, from what i understand without the large intestine, you will go almost immediately after eating, so maybe eating less often may help, and I have seen that there are some foods to avoid, and some that help. I just had partial and a colostomy for a while. I did have the sore, extremely sore bottom after reattachment, and tried many over the counter remedies, soaking in hot bath, sitz baths and so on. The doctor gave me a prescription for proctozone HC it is prescription steroid cream made for this, and it is what finally gave me some relief, it started working for me after a couple days and was such a relief. Hope things go well for you.

agree with buzz , 43 and none affected are great news!
concening to your bottom problem, just asking the same as you and no solution yet , fresh water and a bidet would be the only momentary relief I can
suggest ! hope every think becomes better soon!.
    Hugs!

Glad that you are home and bet you are too. Sounds like surgery was a great success. As far as having the whole colon removed, I'm not sure if that will make you go often as the colon takes out the liquid from the stool. I'm dealing with no rectum but still have think most of my colon. They made a new rectum from the colon. Using calmoseptine and aquaphore has helped with the sore butt. Hope you feel better soon.

    Bum care
Calmoseptine is like Desitin, only better. Soothes the itching burning bum and protects it. Balneol is kind of expensive, but worth every penny. It is a lotion you can use on a bit of TP to gently clean the bum without rubbing it raw.

Isn't life grand?! What other senario could there be where perfect strangers could share information like this?

    Best wishes,
    Rick

    Welcome home!!
My only addition to helping the bum is to get those lovely wet wipes, Cottenelle flushable wipes is what I used, so much better then toilet paper. Soft and gentle.
So glad your surgery went well, and please keep us updated on how you are doing.

We are glad that your procedure went well! Our thoughts, prayers, and good vibes are with you!

Alcohol baby wipes, Nupercanal, and I still cried after going to the bathroom 20 times in a row. I have pulled so hard on something that I broke a finger and I was not hurting as much as 20 times to the bathroom. It will be the new normal for a couple of weeks. Lw Residew diet helped me a lot.

    Best Always, mike
