Anyone experience breast abscess after radiation?

About 3 weeks after radiation my breast started to swell and get purplish red. I had an appt with the onc that week so I discussed it with him. He immediately put me on antibiotics and said to call him if there was no improvement in 3 days. Well there was some improvement but not that much. I'm supposed to see the breast surgeon for a followup tomorrow. Of course, I will have her check it then. It's extremely painful. Has anyone else had this issue and if so what type of treatment besides antibiotics did the doctors suggest/perform? Thanks as always for you help. Barbara

    Sorry no help from me
Sorry no help from me Barbara, I just finished rads about a week ago. Thank you so much for the heads up though, should I develop a similar side effect I won't freak out. Good luck to you..

    Thanks for the support
Thanks for the support. I gotta say this has kind of got me down. I've been trying not to whine too much but it really hurts and the stuff I read online about how they treat it if antibiotics don't work sounds pretty unpleasant. I was so happy 2 weeks out of rads that I was doing so great. I made all kinds of plans to go away on long weekends and clean out closets and just do some 'normal' stuff again. Now I'm in such pain I can't wait to get home from work, undress and sit in bed to watch t.v. Very annoying.

I had it after surgery and
I had it after surgery and it hurt!! It took 2 doses of meds before it was better. That was 20 days! I was also told to use warm compresses. That helped some. Try not to get too depressed from this. I know easier said than done. I would sit there crying from the pain. Just know that this too will work itself out. Sending you lots of hugs!!!!
