Say Ladies,
I am starting taxotere and cytoxan on the 15th of this month.. it is going to be every three weeks for four treatments.. I have read some of the side effects and I just lost my left breast I really do not want to lose my hair again... I love my hair the way it is some thinning would be okay though..one of my nurses told me that some thinning is all I should go through since the complete hair loss was from the A/C... I have read up on this stuff and muscle pain, lose of appetite, low blood count and nails falling off.. My oncologist told me this is less toxic but sounds worse than the taxol I had of which I had NO problems with... I am going to have my treatments on Fridays so I will have the entire weekend to regain my strength... please give me your feed back on this subject and let me know what your side effects are or where.. Thanks Diane

    Same "cocktail"...
And triple negative also....first dx 2 yrs ago...now it's back....I had Taxotere/Cytoxan....hate to tell you but you will most likely lose your hair...I was told it would begin to fall out 10-14 days after the first treatment...I had it buzzed and exactly on day 14 it came out...I shaved what remained the next morning....I tolerated this combo fairly well....take your anti nausea meds religiously! I started those and the steroids the day before each infusion...continued the anti nausea drugs for 3 more days.....I never had even a wave of nausea! Remember to drink drink drink! I also lost my taste buds for about 6-7 days after each infusion...no metallic taste, food simply had no taste so I experimented...watermelon , I could taste somewhat and it adds to your liquid intake....will you be having the Nuelasta injection the following day? I did and my blood work was always really good.....I was achy and fatigued...the effects are cumulative with each infusion, but not debilitating, for me, at least....

Is your bc a recurrence of triple negative?

I wish you the very best and have you in my thoughts and prayers....If I can help with any other questions, I'm here for you...
    Big hugs,
    Nancy

    Same cocktail
I had the same chemo, just had the 1 year since last treatment mark on July 2nd. I too lost my hair with this. Like Nancy said day 14 I got my head shaved. I had a little stubble in a few spots the whole course of treatment but not much. I also tolerated this very well, no nausea for me either. Take those meds and drink water, water, water!! I was tired with it. I had my treatments on Friday too and Sunday was my crash day. I worked all through chemo. I did not lose all my lashes or brows and no trouble with nails.I did not have the Nuelasta shot with mine and I was not triple negative. Wishing you the best. God Bless

    Same drugs for me, too...
    Hi Diane,
I had taxotere and cytoxan also. Same as you, four infusions each three weeks apart. My hair did come out, and I wore wigs and caps. I had the infusions on Thursday afternoons, and was back to work on Monday mornings. I had a little nausea, but took Zofran for it with really good results. I also had taste issues, but that was not too bad. I had a little tingling in my legs/feet esp. when I lay down at night. Otherwise, I pushed right through it all, and was OK. You will probably be tired, so rest as much as possible...remind people/family when you are too tired. Most people who didn't know, could not tell I was even going through all that...or at least that is what they told me when they found out.
Prayers and best wishes for you!

I had the same treatment and I also lost my hair. But I have to tell you that I never had most of the side effects they told me about. I did lose my taste and I was tired, of course, but I didn't lose any nails. Overall, it was tolerable.

    Taxotere too....
    Hi Diane,

I also had 6 rounds of chemo. Mine was Taxotere/Carboplatin and Herceptin thrown in too. My onc told me the Taxotere causes the hair loss. I lost all hair and pubic hair but did not lose eyebrows or eyelashes. Every one is different, but my experience was tolerable. I had no muscle pain or loss of appetite (darn!) and no nauseau because I took the anitnausea regularly for a couple days after treatment. Like others, my down days were days 3-5 after treatment. I was very weak throughout treatment and was fortunate that I did not have to work. I never needed the nulasta like some people get. I finished chemo in Aug 2010 and lost my big toe nail in Feb 2011!! And I thought I was past all the symptoms...
I wish you all the best in this journey beginnning on the 15th!
    Chris
