Check list for first chemo treatment Tuesday (28th) Do I need anything else?

in Ovarian Cancer #1
I went to Wal-Mart this morning. I bought a large bag (on clearance) to put all my belongings in.

neck pillow, have been to library to get a good book to read, bottled water, chips, I plan to take a Subway Veggie sub with me, my meds. Am I forgetting anything? Oh, also a change of clothes. With IBS one NEVER knows.

    Cell phone & charger
    Extension cord for charger
    Laptop & cord, if there is wifi
    iPod (or other MP3 player) if you have one, & charger
    Ear buds for phone/laptop/iPod
    Warm socks

    The change of clothes is a good idea. I learned to wear panty liners to chemo, because I have a bladder the size of a peanut, they are flooding your system with liquid, and getting to the bathroom takes longer than at home. I had to put the chair down, unplug the machine and wrap the cord up, then make our way - me and the machine - to the bathroom. I had some close calls, and decided I would be like the Boy Scouts: always prepared.

    Warm socks are important and I always took my own blanket; everything that goes into you is cold and makes you feel cold! They have blankets and pillows available, but I was kind of a germ-a-phobic and brought my own. Comfy clothes, of course and most important; a POSITIVE attitude; chemo can and will cure you! It cured me of stage 3 ovarian cancer in 7 months! Be strong!

    chemo buddy?
    I'm lucky to have a chemo buddy (my daughter-in-law's mother... is there a word for that except that she is my angel?). We chat away and it all goes much faster. You can do this!

    I'm sure I will make new
    I'm sure I will make new friends. My clinic will not allow anyone to be with the patients while receiving treatments. I would love to have a friend with me the first time. My sister is going to take me Tues. morning and a friend is going to pick me up after I'm finished. My sister says I have the "gift to gab." so hopefully someone who likes to talk will be beside me :)

    make new friends... and the chemo nurses are some of the most awesome people you'll ever have the pleasure to meet. We'll be waiting to hear all about it.... Maria

    I could not stop peeing. Also, because of the steroids they pump you up with be prepared to be STARVING....

    I brought:
    Cell Phone
    Huge Water Bottle (the anti-hystmines give you dry mouth)
    Pillow/Blankie
    Eye Pillow
    Food

    sounds like you have everything you need
    Good luck on Tuesday, I hope tour tx is early in the day so you can go home and relax. Remember if you have pain take something or call your Doctor. Also when you get up from chair or bed sit and dangle your legs and feet first the get up slowly. I will be thinking of you Tueday....val

    Too bad you cannot bring a friend. My clinic lets someone stay with you and my husband stayed most of the morning with me. I found my own warm blanket to be one of the most important things; I was always cold. The nurses are awesome and will talk to you while they are doing things. I met several wonderful people there and we talked during treatment. A positive attitude is also one of the most important things. You will learn after the first treatment what you need to bring but it is best to be prepared for anything. I have an ileostomy due to the ovarian cancer affecting my colon and I was always worried about the colostomy leaking but I never thought to bring a change of clothes. Good luck, you will do great.

    I hope you have a good experience your first time as it can be overwhelming. Having your spouse or a friend sit with you is very comforting. You will find yourself sleeping through most of your treatment after they give you your pre-meds ( at least I did).
