Hi, I do not know if this is the accurate name in english but mum gets very low on white blood cells after chemo which cause dangerous infections. Anything you can do to prevent it? Have any of you been treated with the same symptoms?

Thanks,
Millie

    White blood cells low
Hi,with my last 2 chemos, I've also experienced low white blood cells, but they've been manageable. I know if they go very low, the dr. can give an injection to boost the white blood cells. But, the cells do seem to go up slowly and when a person has a rest period in between chemos, they also go up.

    Hi,
My last 2 chemos I received the injection to boost the white blood count, it's worth doing in my opinion. The injection I had is Neulasta, I didn't have any side effects.

    White blood counts
    Hi,

Thank you for information about Neulasta to boost them! I will give this to our oncologist so mum could have the best treatment under the circumstances.

    Love,

    my mom
had Neulasta shots with one of her chemos. She didn't suffer side effects from this drug, but it was EXPENSIVE. I think she somehow got a reimbursement for it. Not sure how. I do not believe it was covered by insurance. If you want more details about this, email me at ejward@ameritech.net and I will ask my mom the specifics. Happy to get info for you if needed........

    White Blood Cell Count
Hi Eileen, I too have low white, red and even my platelets are below average after a chemo treatment. My doc wants me to eat red meat (beef) leafy green veggies like spinach and swiss chard. Also, walnuts are good too to boost the blood. Cottage cheese is also advised. Good luck.

    Hi
My mother gets a shot of neulasta the day after chemo. She is getting it today as a matter of fact. She skipped it last time because the side effects she gets from it are terrible. Bone pain and joint pain like as if someone ran u over with a car. She thinks its worse than chemo. However, it is very important. Her white blood cell count went down after last treatment so she decided to get it. I have a 7 yr old daughter and we live with my mom so my daughter brings home every virus under the sun. My mom would be in danger.
