We woke early, needing to pack and prepare for a 9:30am flight to Verona. I had two bags, and I rearranged them for this trip so that the small one, my carry-on, would have my computer packed inside it. Once ready, out to the lobby for a bit of breakfast, then back to bring the bags out.

It was quite a collection in the lobby; ten people can carry a lot of luggage. Eventually, the bus driver arrived, but for some reason he could not take us to airport for another 30 minutes. After telling us he needed to take this 30 minute break, he did say he would take all of our luggage to the bus.

30 minutes passed pretty quickly, and soon we were all on the bus heading for Frankfurt. On arrival we were dropped off near our terminal. We grabbed our luggage and the group headed into the airport to check in for our flight.

At the ticket counter Kathy and I had a rude awakening; The weight limits inside Europe are much less than the limits in the US, in our case we were 15 kilos overweight, and the fee was going to be 10 Euro a key!

I figured I could rearrange the load, so I started opening my bags, only to discover that something important was missing; my laptop was no longer in my bag!

PANIC! I am actually pretty unclear about the next 15 or so minutes. I know the agent waived our fees, I know I cut in line at security to rejoin the group, I know my wife felt she needed to tell my boss that the laptop was missing, and I know I made an *** of myself when I got mad at her for it.

Oh well, it was replaceable, and all my emails from this year were still on the server. So, by the time we arrived in Verona I was over the panic and onto the reality that I would get a new one when I got back home.

Verona is beautiful. The city’s wall still stands, and their Colosseum is the third largest (is still being used for public events). The city has done a lot to make the public spaces pedestrian friendly, this place felt like the Italy I had read about and seen in films. My only issue is that I was tired from the stresses of the day, and my leg was really bothering me.

So, after a walk around the city I bowed out of dinner and went to bed. I know I missed a great meal, as my wife brought a selection back to the hotel for me to have a midnight snack. I have to agree with the group, the tiramisu was the best I have ever had.

Tomorrow: A trip to the winery, and lunch in Limon!

    Sorry for the trouble....
But, was the airline EasyJet? They are notorious for charging for just about everything, all the time!

I hope someone is reporting the bus company...and were there any other things 'missing' from other bags of other people? The cab drivers in Europe also steal alot: my friend was in Spain, headed from the airport to hotel. The cabbie offered to take some of the luggage up front, including my friend's computer bag (which had all of his travelers checks, ID, everything in it). They got to the hotel, and in a flurry of bags, paying, etc, they did not notice until the cabbie was off that their computer bag was missing. Never heard from again...and they had to cut their trip short! Never trust anyone while traveling is the moral....

I am happy you enjoyed Verona!!!! Italy is so beautiful! We visit next month...I am so excited!

    Hugs, kathi

    Lufthansa
On their Italian commuter airline. It was a small plane, and between the two of us we had four bags, three of them pretty heavy.
