Does anyone know anything about capsaisin (an ingredient in cayenne) and neuropathy? I have read some articles on it and even it's use in cancer treatment. It seems the articles talk about the apoptosis of cancer cells in the treatment and something about confusing the sheaths in neuropathy. I am wondering if anyone has used it for neuropathy. It comes in cream and heats up. My feet already hurt and I'm afraid to add pain to pain. lol. What about pill form? I read they use it for diet but don't want to go there. Thank's guys.

Love and hugs, Gail

    The "Heat" in Chili Peppers
From what I know from cooking, capsaisin is what gives spicy food the heat. It's also one of the main ingredients of pepper spray. I could believe if they said it helped mask pain but I do not know for certain how it's used with cancer.

    I would be careful with
I would be careful with capsaisin. It would bring blood flow closer to the skin by irritating it, does the increased blood flow help the neuropathy? Before I used it I would have stainless steel and milk near by. Both react to lessen capsaisin.

If you ever get onion, garlic or capsaisin on your hands. Wash your hands while holding a stainless steel object. It sounds weird but the science made sense. The stainless steel ionizes (Collects) the capsaisin molecules lessoning the amount that stays on your hands. (Alton Brown FoodTV Network) Milk is similar and works when you have burn in your mouth.

    Best Always, mike
PS I use nerontin to help the neuropathy. I will let you know in a month if it is working or not.

My onc started me on Lyrica 2 weeks ago and I have not had any relief. I looked into vitamins and supplements and he was ok with the vitamins but not the herbals. He said to wait till after chemo because there was no proof of the interaction. I asked about neurontin but he wanted me to try Lyrica first. I sure hope it starts working.

    Thanks, Gail

I was looking at suppplements for neuropathy and came upon Cayenne. It said how the capsaisin affected the myelin sheath. I think it causes increased blood flow which would increase oxygen to the area...better for cell regeneration?...What do I know...lol.... Also I read a couple of articles (may be out dated I don't know) of how the capsaisin causes apoptosis in cancer cells.

    Thanks for the input, Gail

    Where were YOU
in 1992 when I accidentally got pepper sprayed in a jail cell wrestling with a drunk? Sure could have used the stainless steel advice back THEN, Mike!

    That's just COOL.
