I saw on the news that a woman with stage 4 breast cancer is going to lose her kids to the father who lives in Chicago!!! The judge is a woman too. I can not believe she could do this to a sick woman. she said if the mother could move to Chicago she can share custody, but she can't right now. Her dr and tx are near her and so is family. Why can't stuped ex move instead. I just don't get it. Having cancer is bad enough.Does this mean every young woman with kids and who is ill will lose their family??? what do you think and what would you do??

I think there is another side to this story that I read on another message board. Carlene posted the other side so she might join in here.

    Please fill me in...
    Dear Jenny

If you know the rest of this story, could you just give me a clue about why the outcome for the child custody went in favor of the father?

    thanks,

There may be more to this story....

The ruling is about much more than cancer, according to longtime Raleigh family Attorney Charles Ullman. He reviewed the 27-page order and says the judge has other concerns.

"That she might expose the children to some type of risk, security risk, health risk, not provide for them," Ullman said.

The reason is while both parents haven't been angels, getting into an altercation and both spending the night in jail, Giordano has more strikes against her.

She confesses to having an adulterous relationship, spending days out of state with a married man while her children were with their grandparents.

On another occasion, Giordano did not make suitable arrangements for her children on a day a doctor told her she was going to be admitted to the hospital.

The order shows she took her children to Duke Hospital.

To avoid calling child protective services, the doctor took the children home with her. The doctor called it a crisis and Giordano called it a great opportunity for the children to get to know the person treating their mother.

Finally, when the children were visiting their father, Giordano failed to send her son's epinephrine pen. The judge believes that shows she has difficulty separating her anger from the well-being of her children.

    What a story!
Poor woman! I guess she doesn't get to use "chemo brain" in her defense...but is it a crime to have an affair with a married man? OK, it might be a "sin" but I am impressed that this survivor can even carry on having a sex life while dealing with OVCA.

Giordana sounds like she was punished for being an unconventional woman and my heart goes out to her because she lost custody of her children. On the other hand, it might be more stable for the children to be with their father, who can say? I am certainly not gonna judge her.
