I'm happy for Linda's son that he about to start Erbitux. I think the way it works is a good arsenal against fighting the tumors. I was highly disappointed yesterday, found out I have KRAS-mutation, not the "wild" type. I will not be able to use Erbitux. I'm feeling really low, nothing goes my way. Have to start on Nulasta, too. Does anyone know how many people (percentage)approximately have the "wild" type KRAS, and how many have the "mutated" type? I just feel now like I'm kicked out of the potential group of being cured. I know Phil has been on Erbitux a long time. I was hoping that I could benefit form that. Thanks all.

    Janie:
That is what I heard, about 30% plus, of the people that have been tested. My George is also Kras mutant. I was reading some time ago where they were giving Erbitux along with something else for Kras mutant. Do some Google searches.

    Take care - Tina

Here every body is tested and results are about 40%.
As we mostly use Soscial security is the normal protocol here.Don't worry , standard chemos are working normal( folfox ,folfiri) only some some inmunoclonal antibodies like Erbitux doesn't work, also avastin works as normal !.So still lots of artillery.

Many of us are KRAS mutant
"Kicked out of the potential group of being cured"????

I don't see the rationality in that statement. There really aren't that many people that are on Erbitux overall. And most have not been "cured" from Erbitux. The clinical trials showed it not to be effective in stage III patients. There aren't many people cured from stage IV. And those that are, mostly are cured with surgery, or sugery and raditaion - NOT chemo. Chemo is really not a cure, but is a treatment to manage a disease.

There are a LOT more people that have had just FOLFOX or XELOX, FOLFIRI or XELIRI, and a many more that have had one or more of those plus Avastin, than there are those that have had one or more of those plus Erbitux.

I don't know what chemo you are on, but I'm on FOLFIRI with Avastin. We tried dropping the Irinotecan when things were looking better, but I progressed. Back on Irinotecan and my CEA is dropping fast. Sure, it would be nice to have another potential drug to assist if the current ones quit working for me, but I'm not going to let it get me down that I can't take Erbitux. It doesn't even help for many that do try it. It is great for those that it does work for, but honestly it isn't a huge percentage of people with colon cancer that are helped my Erbitux, as you seem to think.

Don't worry about what won't work for you. Concentrate on the possibilities of what can work for you! Each case is very individual with something different working for us to cure, or to manage living with cancer. What is important is what are the choices for YOU - not what are the choices for someone else.
