Mom was diagnosed with pneumonia 10 days ago.....that on top of the stress fracture in her back has made it quite the uncomfortable past two weeks....her lungs seem to have responded very well to the anti-biotics and except for the fatigue and weakness in her legs, she is doing better....Today was pretty rotten though....we had a 10:15 am appointment, saw the doctor, who is wonderful and then waited 3 hours for chemo....."they were over scheduled"....how do you do that to people who are so ill? Mom started crying...after 2.5 hours....her back hurt and she was fried...I told her oncologist today that I lover her (I do) but that the system there really needs work.....If you know how many patients are coming in for chemo, and about how long the infusions take, is it that hard to at least get the wait down to at least an hour? I think 3.5 hours is inexcusable for a woman with advanced cancer, and a broken back, who is recovering from pneumonia.....I tell you what ladies, I think the doctors at MSK are wonderful, but they need a complete overhaul of their system.....anyway, Mom is safely tucked away in bed and I'm going to go steal half of one of her ativan...LOL

sorry to hear your mom had such a long wait
chemo is bad enough!! I think I would have left if I had to wait that long. You are right that the system need s to be fixed Asap. That is the only drawback to the centers is the long wait for blood draws scans .seeing the drs and chemo all in one day. Makes for a very long and tireing day. Glad your mom is home now . Take the whole ativan..what the heck, you need to rest too...val

Lisa....I have the card of one of the hospital administrators at Sloan-Kettering. Would you like me to send you his name/number? He assured me that they really do want to know about these things.

Lisa: So sorry that your mom has to recover from pneumonia--the recovery from that alone could take months.

If you don't already have one, I would ask the doctor for a handicap parking hang tag for your car so that your sweet momma doesn't have to walk long distances from the parking lot when she goes out.

    Hoping all goes well eventually.

    Lisa,
    I too have to wait,

    Lisa,

I too have to wait, wait, wait..............don't understand why they schedule so many women in one day.

My onc/gyn is super, but they do get way behind. After examination you do go into his office to go over everything and he does spend whatever time is needed. The appointments get backed up.

I have a 2 hour drive one way, so makes for a very long day.

Another thing that seems to make the visits longer is having to put everything into the computer now. The computer is in the vitals room (meet with nurse), in the exam room and then in the doctor's office.

Technology sometimes does not make things easier or faster!!

    Take care,
    Libby
