Well I got a port date of this Friday May 6 and a chemo start date of May 10th. Why do I have to have dates with Port and Chemo? I want to skip these two dates and get a date with NED! (Tee hee hee). It will be an adventure I am sure. The good thing is that I am into adventures, just not this kind.

One thing the medical oncologist told me was this. Those who walk 40 minutes 3 times a week have an increase in thier survival rate. (I don;t remember him giving me a percentage). We were discussing what strategies I was going to use to add to what the doctors do. I stated that I was willing to do the things I stated, because they were low cost or no cost. Then I asked if he had any other ideas. This is when he mentioned the walking. Thought I would pass on this idea. Will be looking into yoga as well.

    Good Luck ...
Good Luck with the port surgery. I had a port put in when I first underwent chemo too, but have since had it removed when they did my mastectomy. You will have a little soreness o that side, but all in all it was pretty easy. Good luck with your chemo too.. keep us posted on how you are doing. I had to do only 4 rounds myself so I was one of the lucky ones.

As far as as the walking goes, that's good news since I walk almost daily for an hour in the evening (trying to lose weight and stay in control). My oncologist mentioned working out with weights as well (not sure why but maybe it's a strength thing).

    Hugs,

You have a date. NO..2 dates!
Good luck with your port and with the chemo. Be sure and let us know how you do with both dates.

Walking is great for anyone, cancer or not. My hubby and I walk together, not everyday, or every night, but, as often as we can. It really is fun and I know it makes us feel better physically.

I also have a girlfriend that comes out to walk with me some, so, I do get plenty of walking.

I've never tried yoga, but, have always wanted to. Guess I should look into that.

Cyber hugs and prayers for you,

    Sue :)

    Dates with Port and Chemo
Believe me, NED is a much better date than Port or Chemo. Port is lumpy and may make your skin crawl. Chemo was so awful it (he?) made me vomit.

My oncologist is also a HUGE believer in exercise for chemo patients. He told me that exercise can be almost as beneficial as chemo. I also took a class at my local Y called Living Strong Living Well. It was specifically for cancer patients/survivors who have become deconditioned due to the disease and its treatment. Maybe there is a similar program where you live?

Good luck and keep us posted. IRENE

I am glad you have a definite date now for your port and chemo, even though I wish you didn't have to do either.

I am sending positive thoughts and lots of hugs to you!

    Glad you have your "dates"!
Glad you have your "dates"! Both my MO and my RO told me (I started chemo this past Friday) that those of us who exercise also do better with fatigue and handling other side effects than those who do not. I work out at a gym 5 days a week and went back today, at a slower pace, but I did go back. I would think walking would be a great form of exercise! Keep up the great work!
