Nice post!
I want to thank my surgeon Dr. El-Tamer from Memorial Sloan Kettering who held my hand and spent time with me explaining. He was sensitive to me, caring, gentle, careful, yet he told me everything I needed to know. He is also an EXCELLENT surgeon!

My Oncologist is Dr. Patel - who is the founder of CBCC in Bakersfield California. I trust him 100% - he is gentle and takes his time with me. He even takes the time to call me at home. Infact, all the staff at Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center (CBCC)is great. They genuinely care.

So far I like all three of my BC doctors, my surgeon, Dr. Harry Black (very well respected, compassionate and an awesome bedside manner). My rads oncologist, Dr. Brad Factor (very well respected as well, personable, down to earth and calls me "relatively" young, and my med oncologist, Dr. Greg Favis (for all of the above reasons). He actually took the time to come check on me in the chemo room today (it was my first).

I was unhappy with my previous oncologist's lack of compassion and concern, so I went out & found another one! My NEW onc, Dr. Robin Zon, is WONDERFUL. She's so thorough, compationate, and understanding, and actually LISTENS to her patients. Also, last night my family went to a concert benefitting the Susan G Komen walk. My MO, Dr. Beverly Bowker at
My MO, Dr. Beverly Bowker at Winchester Hematology/Oncology Center is the best Doctor I have ever had. Like Kelly, she called me at home after each tx to see how I was doing and if I needed anything. Let me tell you, not many Docs do that! She is smart, insightful, caring, compassionate and has a great bedside manner. She looks you in the eye when she talks to you and always has time for questions or concerns. I wish all my Docs were like her! Love you, Dr. Bowker!

University of Pittsburgh Medical - Shout Outs
I think that this is a good post for a couple of reasons: we acknowledge those that have given us good medical care and we give the name(s) of doctors in our area. Sometimes we may need to change a doctor and try another one or if there are newbies trying to find a doctor. Although no one wants to have an illness especially the one that we all share, Pittsburgh is a good place to do it. Here are my shout outs:

Breast Surgeon - Joseph Kelley - called me at home and let me know that there was no lymph node involvement. The day of my surgery we had major snow. There was an accident on one of the main roads into the city and Dr. Kelley was sitting in traffic. He notified the appropriate people and we signed the paperwork for one of his associates to do the mastectomy. Dr. Kelley made it to the hospital before I was rolled to surgery. He said, I'll meet you in there!" I felt much better.

Plastic Surgeon - Carolyn de la Cruz - She was the second opinion for my PS. I immediately liked her and her staff. She has proved to be competent, caring and supportive through the hardest part of my recovery--the reconstruction. She built me a boob!

Oncologist - Adam Brufsky - He did not tell me what I had to do, but said here are the options. I liked him most when he said, "It's over!" When it hit me what he meant, I cried.

Dr. Ravindra......
in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was my surgeon that removed my breast and he even gave me his personal cell phone no. incase I needed him anytime during or after my surgery.

Hats off to Dr. Ravindra.

First, I've had the same gyn for 34+ years. He delivered my son almost 33 years ago. He is Thomas Allan, MD at Hartford Hospital. He saved my life as far as I'm concerned because he found the mass in my breast. Second, Ramon Jimenez, MD my oncology surgeon who specializes in bc. He explained everything to me and helped me through the worse time in my life. Third, my medical oncologist, Michael Reale, MD at DeQuattro Cancer Center. And last but not least, my radiology oncologist, Stephen Hauser, MD. All four are men but very caring and compassionate.

My doctors rock and are on to it SO QUICKLY - they truly care !!
Dr Hoenig/Dr Stavros and Dr McDonald - radiologists (read mammo on Dec 20, confirmed on Dec 22 with DCIS)
Dr Charles Elboim - breast surgeon (surgery on March 7)
Dr Eileer Sommerhaug - plastic surgeon (skin sparing surgery, expander placed)
Dr Michelle Melisko - UCSF, breast oncologist (2nd opinion on sentinel node diagnosis of 9mm discontinuous area of invasive cancer in the 1st node. 2nd node benign)
March 31 - 6 auxilliary nodes were removed - all benign
Dr Ian Anderson, medical oncologist - recommended 4 x TC even though all known cancer is out; bone scan, cat scan and blood tests are all clear.
We are being very safe and want to make sure it is all gone :-)

My MO and surgeon
I would shout out to my MO, Dr. Robert Reid from Virginia Cancer Specialists and my surgeon, Dr. Richard Brenner from Virginia Surgery Associates. Two top notch "A" Team doctors. You know they are special when the nurses in the hospital all like them, too! Both of them are warm, caring, and make me laugh.
