We went on a little get away...

It's been a hard few weeks. Everyone in the house got sick...I had a cold, my husband has ear stuff, and both kids got strep throat. Last week my son was on spring break, this week my daughter is on spring break, Saturday was our anniversary, and Sunday of course was Easter. So even though none of us was at a hundred percent...

We went to Santa Cruz for two days! I sat on the beach for an hour or two, regenerating and appreciating the chance to be there. We also played on the boardwalk, walked the length of the beach, swam in the heated hotel pool, ate whatever we wanted, and toured the Mystery Spot.

I wish we could still be there...sigh.

    Aaaaah...
that sounds like a nice little break. it's so rejuvenating to be away
from your usual routine and the Bah! Humbug! of it all. Don't you
wish americans had 6 weeks of paid vacation like in Europe? I bet
that would help with a lot of stress related health issues.

    Love,

Glad you got away from it all, even if for just a short while. And, hoping you and your family are all much better, very soon. :-)

    Kind regards, Susan

I am so sorry that you have all been sick, but so happy that you were able to sneak in a restorative holiday. What is the Mystery Spot?

Nice that you were able to get away and had such a nice time. We all need that once in awhile. life can get hectic and stressful and we need to stop and smell the roses.Glad the family is better now.You guys had a rough time for awhile.

My husband and I are homebodies(he works alot) but 2 weeks ago we took a long drive to KY.Went to look at a antique truck and came back the same day.Just a nice drive and the scenery was awesome. We've been to KY before but been awhile.I Love the mountains and want to go back and stay a few days.It was tiring but we enjoyed getting away from it all.

It sounds like a much needed vacation! I live in Daytona Beach and find the beach to be very therapeutic, both physically and emotionally. After just having all those colds, strep, etc. the salt air was probably very good for you! So glad you had such a good time! You deserved that!

I went to Santa Cruz last month with my eldest son. I had never been there before and just loved my hotel, it was right on the beach and had a cool sixties vibe. We were in Santa Cruz to check out potential colleges, we looked at UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley and Stanford. Stayed overnight in Berkeley but stayed 2 nights in Santa Cruz, my son didn't have a chance to surf Cowells so we may go back this summer. Plus we were there during the week and I really want to ride that rollercoaster. Love Surf

For CC....It's this weird place in the mountains near Santa Cruz where the normal laws of physics don't apply. Sounds impossible, and my son swore it was just a crooked house on a steep hill.

In one demonstration, anything round placed on a level board always rolled to the left, even if it was pushed a little to the right. Everyone walks/stands with a lean of 17 degrees, made it very difficult to move from one place to the next, and it made me very nauseous.

In another demonstration my son 6' stood next to my hubby 5'10" stood next to me 5'7". When they were on my left the audience saw a normal stair step of height, and when I looked toward them I could see the normal stair step of height. When they moved to my right, the others in the tour group could not see a difference of height, and I was looking directly in their eyes.

It was absolutely fascinating, and only 5 bucks each for the tour. I didn't give away all the demonstrations and even my son the skeptic said it was worth it, so if you ever get the chance you should go.

I'm not a big rollercoaster fan, but my son and hubby will usually go. They wouldn't this time...last summer they both did the Cyclone on Coney Island, and have both sworn off old wooden coasters. (They both came off with oil on their faces, and sore necks from being jerked around).

My son is just a freshman in high school. But he said he could picture going to college at UC Santa Cruz, even tho we never went to the campus. He just liked the town and the idea of being so close to the beach.
