Starting Chemo this Tuesday

Hi everyone,

I introduced myself last week. I found out last Wednesday after going to my post op appointment that my first treatment will be on Tuesday. Oddly, as long as I have known about this (early Feb.) I'm suddenly feeling like I need more time! My kids were on Spring break and then with Easter I felt rushed and overwhelmed. I am getting scared and I don't like this feeling of the unknown. I know there will never be an "ideal" time, since my middle child's birthday is next week and I wouldn't want to start then either! But I also know the sooner I start the sooner I'm treated!

Thanks for reading.

Julie

yes you need to get it done,
yes you need to get it done, there is never any time for chemo but cancer doesnt care. You need to put yourself first. It is scary with it being so busy doesnt gove you time to mentally prepare. Take a little time for yourself and take a deep breath you can do it!

    Welcome
Good luck Julie. There is never a good time to go through this. Most of us have been through chemo and/or radiation and were scared of the unknown which is very normal. Good luck tomorrow. You probably will do fine and hopefully have few side effects. Try not to over think it and just do what you have to so you get through this. That helped me.
    Hugs to you.

Definitely do it sooner than later. I am 4 weeks post-chemo and about to start radiation. You will make it through this. And we are all here for you!

    You're absolutely right,
You're absolutely right, there is never a good time to start chemo. The good news with starting tomorrow is that you should be feeling better by your child's birthday, and will be able to enjoy it.

The unknown is scary...but we'll be with you holding your hand, praying, telling jokes to make you laugh and distract you, filling the room and getting in the nurses way...

    Hugs,

Julie .. Best of Luck to you ..
Try if possible .. to pre-make as many meals humanly possible - freeze, freeze everything. Please rally friends, family and church members to bring meals at least 1 to 2 times a week during your chemo weeks.

If possible purchase crystal light, Lipton individual packets, along with apple or cranberry juice gallons. Hydration is required before/during/and after chemo, and let me tell you ... water becomes very boring = quickly. Herbal teas helped as well. Purchase plastic dinner ware, as you may get a metallic taste in your mouth from the chemo. If you can swing it, buy plastic cups, and paper plates by the truck load.

When you get a free minutes - LOL, please check into house cleaning for cancer patients - not every available in every state ...../free-house-cleaning-for-women-cancer-patients -

Today is the big day! Once
Today is the big day! Once it is finished you can start the countdown to the end! I have a dry erase board in my kitchen where I count down the days. First I counted down the chemo days, now I am counting down the rads! It goes by quicker than u think. I will say a prayer that all goes smoothly. Keep the faith.

    Be Well,

I know how you feel. I am
I know how you feel. I am starting my third treatment of 8 on Thursday and dreading it. The anticipation of the first treatment is overwhelming. Mine was not near as bad as I anticipated, and I had port surgery the same day. The first treatment side effects were minimal as well. I have young children as well and agree that there is never a good time to start chemo. The sooner the better, though. So far, the chemo has been "doable".
Good luck on your first treatment.

    First treatment went well
    Hi everyone,

My first treatment went well. Two friends came with me (in split shifts) and I felt so loved which took the edge off. It was actually a pleasant experience overall, with laughter and catch up time and my nurse was so caring and friendly. Thank you all for your comforting words and prayers. They definitely help!!

    Hugs,
    Julie
