Constipation

I have a problem with constipation I think it's the ensure that I use in my feeding tube is there anything I can use along with the ensure that will help. The over the counter laxatives are two harsh can anyone help I need some relif fast.

    I use a stuff called MiraLAX, it has been working for me just well when I need it.

    Activia yogurt, sweet potato
    Activia yogurt, sweet potato or squash baby food and warm (room temp) prune juice every day. Worked for me. Put it right thru my peg tube.

    Do you think a glass of prune juice every feeding would be ok.

    Nothing works as fast. There are kits you can buy at any Walgreen's like store. A coffee enema would be the best for regular use but the kits would be ok to clear you up.

    Not every feeding! One 6 oz glass of prune juice, one container of activia yogurt and one high fiber baby food only once a day. You can mix it with a little water or put it right into the peg tube food and put it in with the syringe slowly.

    Constipation
    I am the Queen of Constipation....I am the Spouse of a Head and Neck Cancer Survior, but I am on alot of meds that cause Constipation and I concur with Hondo Miralax works Very well...u can mic it with anything a capfull in my coffee or water anything and it is tasteless...if I take a couple doses I am go to GO....and it does not give you cramping or make you have to run to the bathroom...it is the only thing I use. Give it a try. Several years ago my Pain Managment Dr rx'ed it to me before it was over the counter..I think it was the same thing...but it was several years ago...anyhow just it a try. I have my bottle on the kitchen counter always ready for use...

    Robert,

    When I was going through my surgery then treatments, the Nurses suggested that I take the liquid form of " Colace " Stool softener. I was able to use it through my PEG tube as I was not able to eat orally for some time as I had part of my tongue removed. The Nurses recommended that I use it every day, but I found that if I used it every other day, I was fine. It can be found at most Drug Stores on the shelf.

    I had a lot of tha same problems and the best thing I found was Senokot.That is what the doctors at M.D. Anderson suggested.Just follow the directions .
