I had a port placed for chemo treatment TC. The day after my surgery my bandage was not changed. No one told me to change it til day 2 I thought and so did my mom. Well when they went to go change it the site wqs really red and itchy. The nurse said I was allergic to the glue. Well its 9 days after surgery and I am still extremely sore and still red in that area. Did anyone else have trouble and how long did it take for pain to stop and able to use arm again??

    Port
I had much discomfort with the port for about the first 2 weeks. However, didn't experience the red rash or itch as you are. My discomfort was more the pulsing in my neck where it connects. If your still having problems, maybe have it checked out to be sure it is in the process of healing. The last thing you want is discomfort once they start treatments in the port. There will be days, in general, when the port is sore and sensitive. That, for me anyway, is pretty common after a chemo session or after a blood draw.

    no problems
I had a port "installed" with no problems at all. It sounds like you might have a picc instead of a port. The port is generally put in in the upper left side of your chest then with a very small incision at the jugular (sp?) vein to attach it. The port site is completely covered with skin ... nothing open to the outside. I believe a picc line is in the arm and IS open. If you do have a picc ... I would assume it would take much more care than a port ... so I'd check with the doctor.

    Good luck,

    I had no problems
with my port placement - it's been in for a year and a half now. There was no bandage over it - no external stitches, just 2 small steri-strips. And I started Chemo the day after it was inserted.

I did get out of doing barn chores for 2 weeks as Hubby and Son insisted that they were doing them so "you didn't hurt yourself". I was back riding in a few days and giving lessons though.

    So sorry
you're having problems with your port. I didn't have anything out of the ordinary. It made chemo so much easier since I have bad veins. It took awhile to completely heal as it did after having it removed too. Hope it improves so your treatment goes smoothly.
