For me...the energy came and went, some good days, some bad. But overall it was best furthest out from chemo. Glad you had that BM, not TMI here. For food I liked the plain stuff...rice, noodles, baked potatoes, instant mashed potatoes...maybe a little salt sometimes. Also the carnation instant breakfast worked well for me, and fresh stone fruits. Keep drinking the water.

I wish I could help you with the ringing ears and the headache. I've never had that on chemo, but always get the ringing ears if I take sudafed. Do talk to your doc about the ringing ears tho, it can be a sign of high blood pressure.

I hope you feel better soon.

    Hugs,

    Linda

    Everyone is different.
I didn't have any problems with chemo but have heard lots of different issues form others. I ate a lot of pasta etc. and bland food for a couple days. Really grew to love my bananas and yogurt, also pudding. Tired comes and goes, I tried not to think of it as a problem but rahter a reason to get out of helping my husband clean out the garage etc. You know, sorry, I have to take a nap. Hang in there, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Congrats for getting that first chemo under your belt!
And having that first BM--major victory! I think the food thing is really trial and error. What some could tolerate, I could not and vice versa. Sometimes the thought of something would really appeal to me, I'd have my husband run out and get it, only to taste it and go "YUK!"

As others have said--the fatigue will come and go. Try to roll with it and not fight it. Try to rest, relax and take good care of yourself. Your body needs extra pampering right now.

Good luck on this journey--it's not easy, but doable and certainly worth the trip.

    Hugs, Renee

Didn't have the ringing or headache
but I was constipated for 18 weeks, so I guess I was literally full of sh#@$! LOL! I took Miralax for almost 2 months which helped a lot.
I only wanted to eat pasta with butter, garlic and salt for the first couple days after chemo. Any starch would work, but not much else.
While it doesn't really get better, it does get finished. Each cycle brought new SE but now it seems like it wasn't all that bad--finished chemo on 1/7/11. I'm glad I'm done, but if I had to I'd do it all again.
    Good luck!
    Hugs,
    JoAnn

    Ringing ears started for me
Ringing ears started for me at almost day 1. They got worse before they got better. Then at the next infusion, the ringing would start all over again. It got so bad for me that I could not be with the family because simple talking or glasses on the table would kill my ears. The ringing does seem to get more tolerable the further out I am, but it does not go away. I get my 3rd treatment Tuesday. I guess the ringing will ramp up again.

Fatigue was worst for me day 3 and 4: an all day affair. Day 5, I would get spurts of energy. Slowly, energy comes back. But I have noticed my high energy is still not pre chemo energy.

I ate food that had no taste. Mashed potatoes, meat with no spice. Stuff like that.

Hope you are doing better. You have made it through one. NOw, you are prepared for the rest.

Ask dr. about the steroids. They gave me to much, and that is what caused the headaches. Chemo may interfere with the 5 senses, so that is where the ringing comes from, but again ask dr. My senses were all messed up while I was on chemo.

Yay, you made it through the first treatment
Congratulations on making it through chemo #1 :) I didn't get ringing in the ears, but all of my other senses are totally messed up. Have you asked your onc about the ringing in the ears? I just had my last treatment two weeks ago, so I understand about the fatigue. Keep drinking lots of water, take lots of naps and don't push yourself too hard.
