Is Oncotype usually done on grade 3 tumors?

I have all the other characteristics of someone with IDC who gets an Oncotype done, hormone receptor+, HER2-, stage 1, no nodes (margins weren't clean the first time but were the second). I am 52 and pre-menopausal. I had a lumpectomy and re-excision and will have radiation after chemo, IF chemo is recommended. I also am counting on the liklihood of Tamoxifen. I am just wondering though if because of my grade 3 they won't even want to do the oncotype? Of course a lot for me will also depend upon whether or not the test is covered by my insurance.

Thanks for any thoughts of advice you have!

Nancy

    Stage of Cancer not Grade
From what I have read, you are a candidate for the Onctotype DX based on the fact that your IDC in stage 1 or 2, the cancer is hormone receptive and there is no node involvement. You may wish to google Onocotype DX. There is a lot of information availble on the internet.

    Don't know
Don't know - I'm IBC so big difference. My Dr. (my PA agreed) that there is no reason to do the test with IBC. My care is through VA and she is my VA Dr - so all non-VA care requests go through her (she has never refused anything) and if she wants something more than the other Drs want - I get it.

Thank you very much! I know
Thank you very much! I know I fit the profile, but a lot I have read on the internet says that chemo is often recommended just because grade 3 tumors respond positively to it. I guess I will find out tomorrow when we see the medical onco for the first time.

    Grade 3 tumors
    Hi Nancy:

I was also ER+ Stage 1 and Grade 3 with no node involvement. I had the Oncotype test done on my tumor and scored in the moderate to high range (Recurrence Score 28), so my onc. and I decided that I could benefit from chemo. I had Cytoxan and Taxotere x 4 every 3 weeks and it was doable.

Good luck with your treatment decision. Jane

    Hi!
Nancy, I was 57 when I was dx three years ago. I was also Stage 1, Grade 3 and ER+. I had the Onco test done and my score was an 11. I opted not to do the chemo as I felt that the risks of chemo out weighted the benefits. So far, so good after three years and I feel comfortable with the decision I made at the time. I think that's the most improtant thing - that you feel good about whatever decision you make. I also had a masectomy and am on tamofifen as I couldn't tolerate the AI drugs for post menopausal women.

Good luck to you. Hugs, Sally

    Thanks for your additional,
Thanks for your additional, helpful replies. My question was answered today when my new onco told me he was sending off my pathology for an Oncotype. I was told that my treatment plan will also be Taxotere and Cytoxan should I need chemo.
