Hello all,

I am a bit worried about my hubby Mark. Stage IV NSCLC w/ adnocarcinoma & mets. He hasn't had a bm in about 5 days. Called doc about that and they said to get some stuff which he drank and had a little come out last night. But now he hasn't eaten in two days. The worse part is that he is a diabetic. Hasn't taken his last three shots. He did tell me that he has to get some nutrients in him but from the radiation on his neck he can't swallow (thank goodness the morphine pills are small) I told him the only place is the hospital because I don't have IV equipment here. And they may need to put a feeding tube in him because he can't swallow. That turned him right off, damn it. Well at least he does have his wits about him knowing the need of nutrients. Now he has changed his mind (for now) about going to the hospital. I did ask him not to wait until midnight to decide to go.

As he is only getting palliative treatment and the radialogist onclologist stated he wasn't ready for hospice, and if he went there he would have to stop radiation treatments. He has only had a handful. The rad onc is the director of hospice here so I trust him.

He won't eat or drink anything, except with his pills. I do keep trying to persuade him to have something even if it's wrong!

His brother and wife are coming in April. I have a feeling they should come sooner.

Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that is going through this monster whether you be the victim or the caregiver! God Bless!

Thanks for listening! Kelly

    Eating
    Hello

My husband Steve has the same cancer as Mark so I completely understand the eating problem, though Steve is not diabetic. feeding tube was mentioned to him as well with same reaction as Mark. Steve is currently on hiatus from chemo whilst having daily radiation for pain management. he was down to 122 pounds from 150.

This week he gained four pounds- yay- he was taking so much morphine that he simply had no desire to eat, so now the radiation is taking the pain down and we are able to reduce morphine, so its been a balancing act between the two. I also moved meals once I got liquids in, and got a great tip about those little bouillon cubes, they will go down when water only will not. Steve got to a point that the thought of swallowing even was enough to just go back to sleep and blot it all out. bubbles help too in soft drinks.

Hear you on the lactulose for BM too, seem to have resolved that for a bit too.

What sort of liquids are you trying?

    Best wishes
