Back from vacation and visit with Dr Lenz

Hi Friends,

We are back from our vacation- college trip- Dr. Lenz trip to Southern California. It was a wonderful trip and cancer was not a big part of it. We were fortunate to stay in a lovely resort thanks to some very generous friends. Our daughter got to check out some colleges and we got to see how much they cost (!!!!!) I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.
Our daughter loved USC. My dad is an alum so he was very proud being on the tour with us. After the tour we went to the USC Norris Cancer Center and **** had his appointment with Dr. Lenz. Since January 2009 **** has met with Dr. Lenz about 7 times. Dr. Lenz agreed with our oncologist here that **** should stay on the Folfori + Avastin since things are stable. However, he did recommend 2 things. He recommended lowering the dose of Lecovorin and getting rid of the 5 FU bolus push. He says that it will still do the same thing and **** should feel better. What about those of you who are on Folfori + Avastin. Do you get the bolus push? Dr. Lenz said that if/when this chemo stops working **** will go to Erbitux + Ironotican.
Today it is back to unpacking and getting things done for the week of work, school and chemo. What a way to live, but I am grateful that right now this is an option. Who knows about the future.

    Hey there- glad you had a nice vacation! Yikes on the cost of colleges, huh?!
    I'm not on Folfiri, but I do have the 5FU pump w/ my Gemzar and Avastin. Yes, I get the bolus push- never talked or thought about not getting it. I'm doing ok on side effects w/ it (way better than the awful hand/foot syndrome I got w/ Xeloda), but it does make me very, very tired.

    Jimmy is on the folfiri w/avastin and still gets the bolus pust of 5fu. He seems to be tolerating it well. I'm glad you had a nice trip. I have a question for you. I've been reading different posts about the holestic approach. Does **** take any supplements? I think I may look more into it for Jimmy but I'm not sure where to start. We live in upstate NY and there isn't a lot of osteopaths or natual med guys around here.

    Glad y'all had such a great trip. It sounds like a good time, and the report from Dr. Lenz is good, too.

    You mentioned the cost of college. Unfortunately, my dear, the cost is not the worst part. I remember feeling that my heart had been ripped out of my chest when both of our kids left for college. It's so very, very hard to send your "baby" to live and study somewhere else. It hurts even now, just to think about it. I don't know how I got through as well as I did, and I cried A LOT.

    Glad you had a good one and weren't thinking so much about the other things going on. Sounds like his doctor is on top of things. Glad to hear it is going well for him.
