Hi Guys
about 2 mins ago after I got done eating some food and I was hacking up some mucus and when I spitted it out onto a paper towel I seen small mounts of blood. I am about 6 to 7 months post treatments of NPC and I want to know if I should be worried about because I started to notice the past 2 weeks there as been small traces of blood when I hack up very thick mucus. Should I tell my ENT doctor when I see him about 4 weeks from now or call him up tomorrow?

    Call your doctor
Please don't wait, Call your doctor right away. Don't know what kind of chemo you received, but my husband had a rare side effect from one of his and had those symptoms.
I lost him a year ago on Mar. 25th. Please call!!!! Carole

    a little blood
Hi Tim, earlier threads several people talked about bringing up pieces of dead tissue, some time after treament. Could be your blood spots are still residue from treated and zapped areas.

Good decision to csll though. I'm betting it's treatment related symptoms.

    best, Hal

    No Doubt
No doubt I would call the doctor. I know I had some of this for a long time, it did not get worse. I did tell doc. he did a scope and said if it gets worse to let him know. Any time you have doubt or something happens that is not for good let your doctors know.

    Good luck!

I take it the mucous is bronchial? That stuff originates in the lungs, typical, and bleeding in the lungs is nothing to mess around with. Fact it can be seen regularly with the mucous suggests there may be sources, plural, where the bleeding is happening, though one place with very active bleeding is also possible. Do you take aspirin, or any other type of meds that cause blood-thinning? I used to be a Bayer fan in my previous life, and had a history of nasal-area bleeding that could be seen when I blew my nose. Suppose it is possible a medicine is contributing to your bleeding, but you won't really know until you get it diagnosed by your ENT/Pulmonary Dr., and the sooner the better. I hope and Pray it is nothing serious, Tim, and just another side-effect acquired with treatment.

    about the blood thinning
I know I have been taking 800mg of ibuprofen for my TMJD like twice a day as told by my orthodontics and before I started to take that I asked my chemo doctor about it and he said I can take it with no problems. Can this ibuprofen causing my blood to thin out and causing it to be mixed with my mucus?

    G’day Tim
I am 6 years passed and still every now and then I bleed, it is mostly due to the radiation on the blood vessels in the my Nasal area that are damaged. One time I spit a mouth full of blood out and ran to the doctor telling him I was dyeing, when he looked he could not see anything but explain that sometimes it is normal. But to be on the safe side give your ENT a call and let him take a look.

    All the best my friend

    Hi Tim
Glad to hear you are doing better Tim, but I am a bit concerned that you can’t see your doctor when you need to see him.

    All the best
