CT Scan Some good news and not so good news.....

I had my CT scan done on Tuesday and got a call from the chemo doctor yesterday. We were on the road about a 1 1/2 hours out taking a trip from San Diego to Arizona. He said that the CT scan was "better" but the radiologist found a blood clot in my right upper leg. We returned to the hospital and I was taught how to give myself injections of a blood thinner Lovenox. This will be for three months and then he said I would go onto coumadin. I am not sure what "better" meant about the CT scan, so I phoned him when I got home. He didn't outright say the cancer was gone, so I don't know. He said that from his point of view, I would not need anymore chemo and he wanted to watch it for now. I have an appt. with both him and the GYN/ONC next week on the 16th and he said the GYN/ONC will let me know if he thinks I should have any surgery. I still have the colostomy that started out to be temporary, and they weren't able to finish the first surgery hysterectomy, removal of ovaries, etc. in September. So I think that's what we'll find out about. I'm concerned that now that I am on the blood thinners surgery won't be done, and I'm into the what if's about the cancer coming back. But, I think I'm going to celebrate the good news of a "better" CT scan and no more chemo for now. Has anyone had experience with blood clots and your cancer treatment?

    Blood thinners
    After my surgery last year, a blood clot was found in my lung. I did shots of Lovenox and then went on coumadin and am still on it. I took coumadin all through my chemo treatments with no problems. Before surgery, the coumadin was stopped 5 days before. During that time, I had lovenox until the day before the surgery. If you are on blood thinners, you get what is called PT/INR checked with your regular lab work and the coumadin is adjusted accordingly. If you are on blood thinners, the doctors keep a close eye on you, at least mine do and they monitor even more closely if you are scheduled for surgery.

    I am praying that all will be well with your appt. next week.

    Even though you have that blood clot to deal with--just imagine if the clot hadn't been found at all and it caused MORE problems! Things could always be worse.

    I got the news yesterday that my scan was markedly improved from 10/10 (when there were tumors ALL over the place) with no ascites and no signs of active cancer. The oncologist said that I was in a "clinical remission with inactive cancer." I feel like I won the lottery and have to keep checking the numbers on my ticket to be sure it's true...ha ha ha!

    It seems that oncologists have to be cautious about how they tell you are doing (because of the chance of microscopic cancer); in any case, be prepared to hear the "R" word.

    You are right, things could have been worse. We were 1 1/2 hours out on a 5 1/2 drive from San Diego to Arizona when the doctor called. Sitting in the car all that time would not have been good. That's great news about your scan!
