I am tired of cancer awareness being treated as a pop culture fad or some trend that goes in and out of style. Its become something that embarrasses and disgust me about or culture. This actor gets this cancer and that cancer gets a telethon or a walk, but when john or Jane doe get cancer they don't even get a "sorry bout ur luck" mention in the local paper. My dad died of a brain tumor at the age of 37 and my mom recently passed from colon cancer at the age of 47. The only publicity their cancers got was their obituaries. So I decided to do something about it, to those of u familiar with Facebook or an app called Causes I started a cause called "a ribbon for all cancers". My goal is to make October cancer month. It should be a month about cancer awareness across the board not just about the popular cancers. The site is: causes.com/aribbonforallcancers so please check it out and if you like and agree join and spread the word. THANK YOU

    Wonderful Idea
but, the breast ladies will never give up their pink, it is plastered all over the place. Someone tried to give me a pink pin/ribbon to wear and was a little offended when I said no thanks, asked me why I didn't care, well, duh......... I wear blue and they asked what that was for, I said colorectal cancer, and they actually said breast was more important.

I will check out the site.

    Take care - Tina

    I like
I like your idea. Even as I was urging people to wear blue for colorectal cancer awareness last Friday, I was thinking "Am I becoming like the pink people now, but in blue?" I thought of the people with more obscure types of cancers and how they must feel- like theirs doesn't even count. I will look up your cause on Facebook- thanks.

    Great idea
I think thats a great idea, there are more than one type of cancer.Breast cancer is not the only one. There should not be a popular cancer, all cancer is bad,no matter who gets it.

How many people know the amber ribbon?
Mine is the Amber ribbon for appendix cancer - who's heard of that? I'd like to see research funding distributed better among all the cancers, too. It's hard when therapies are unproven or untested for your cancer.

I could not agree with you more, the funding should be better distributed.

If often wonder exactly what the breast people do with the billions of dollars they collect. Of course they do research but they do collect multi multi millions from athletes to yogurt containers to Kentucky Fried Chicken containers.

    Best Wishes - Tina

    I like this idea
Cancer, no matter what flavor you've got, is a game changer. It's not all the same, granted, but I like the idea of solidarity amongst those of us who have fought, or are fighting "The Big C", whether it's colon, liver, lung, breast, brain, etc, etc, etc.

    Count me IN.

    Old Yeller...
Don't they have this already with the LIVESTRONG bands. I believe that they started the whole band-wagon (so to speak). That organization is about fighting ALL cancer and has some great branding too.
I also really like the Motto, it's a great way to LIVE...STRONG!
That's my input since you were looking for input from members...

my cause is just another outlet
Live Strong is a great foundation that is worldwide, its truely one of a kind and that's the problem. There needs to be more sites and foundations to really bring awareness that all aspects of cancer treatment and research need to be treated equal when it comes to funding and raising awareness. The cause I started on Facebook is just another way to advacate for all people who have been affected by this horrible disease.
