Hi everyone,

I finally had my stereo-tactic biopsy this past Wednesday....I had a really bad experience...the anesthesia didn't work well, I felt a huge pain and I passed out in the middle of procedure. Dr stopped immediately and said she didn't get as much samples as she wanted, but I am waiting on results now. I called her office this morning and nurse told me that results came in and it looks fine, but she can't say anything more because Dr will call me this afternoon....

I am relieved and concern a bit.... why would Dr call me, usually if everything OK , nurse is the one to tell me and I have never received the additional call from Dr before.

Anyone with similar experience and bad biopsy? I am still feeling sick to my stomach and wondering what is going on.....

Thank you,

Boki.

    Markers???
Also, Dr told me she left some small marker inside and I saw it on the post-biopsy mammogram...

Does anyone know how long this is supposed to stay in the breast....

    Boki,
I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience, and I hope your doctor confirms that there is nothing to worry about.

It's standard procedure to leave a marker (sometimes called a "clip") inside the breast when doing a biopsy -- biopsies can leave scar tissue, and the marker will show anyone who reads your future mammograms that that was the location of a biopsy, so they don't misread scar tissue as anything more serious.

(BTW, if it helps at all to reassure you: I had bilateral lumpectomies and sentinel node biopsies, and as a result have about 30 clips/markers in my breasts and underarm areas (the tech and I counted them on the screen at my last mammogram!). I can't feel them at all, they cause me no problems at all.)

So sorry that it was so uncomfortable for you. I am glad to hear you got the all clear from the nurse, it may be that the nurse just needs to allow the doc to give you all the info. she just wanted to give you the info that would relieve your mind. If possible I would call the dr. office one more time and ask that the dr. call you today so you do not have to worry over the weekend.

    Thank you my ladies,

I hope everything is OK and DR just want to tell me details....

And I hope she got enough tissue, so I do not have to go back to the place again....

OH no, I am so sorry to hear that. Tomorrow, i go for mine and I am so scared. I keep telling myself that the results will be fine and I am worried more about the whole procedure. Did you return to work the next day, was there much swelling after. I hope you feel better soon and that your results will be good.
