I do know that the people at Carle Cancer Center in Champaign have a wonderful staff for head and neck cancer. They do it like a team. I am part of the local Head and Neck Cancer Support Group.

    Several
I know several (7-10) who have seen Dr. John Brockenbrough at Carle Cancer Center. I meet him 3 weeks ago and heard so much about him I have scheduled an consult with him. My doctors are at Loyola University in Chicago and know him as he Schooled there and they talk all the time back and forth. I talked with him for 15 min. after he did a friends surgery on his vocal cords. He came across as very passionate about all he does. Others have said he is cassius and aggressive.

    Loyola Medical Center
John: Saw you mention Loyola -- I am currently a patient of Dr. Borrowdale. He did my partial glossectomy and neck resection in January. Just wondered if you knew him. He is Loyola in Maywood (Cardinal Bernadin Cancer Center).

Also are you looking for a consult with another dr because you are not happy with the treatment you got at Loyola ?

    No, I love Dr. B
Dr. Borrowdale has been on my team of doctor's for 15 plus years. When his mentor Dr. Haymaker died many years ago I begged him to be my lead man. I would never change he will be on my team. I am just wanting to add a local doctor to my team and after hearing from members on our local support head and neck cancer group is this one doctor is amazing and thought I will check him out and see him between the every four months I see Dr.Barrowdale.

I saw Dr. Borrowdale in Indy. I would drive 2 hours one way there from Champaign and now since he moved to Loyola I drive 2 hours 15 min. I still have connections with the rest of the team of doctor's CENTA in Indy Huntley, Bloom and Freeman. What a great team. Love Loyola for many reasons not the least that saved my org. doctor who diagnosed me and did two stem cell replacement. Loyola is sending wonderful doctor's out into the world to help all those like us and those who have it worse.

Dr. Borrowdale is cautiously aggressive. He takes a personal attention to all those fighting the fight.

I can not imagine you not liking him. :-)

    We Love Dr.B also
John: I also love Dr. B.... he actually talked the plastic surgeon into coming back from holiday early (Dr. Vandeevender) so that he and Dr. B could do my surgery first thing on January 3, 2011. He has been wonderful as has the rest of his staff. He from day 1 told me he has done many of the same surgeries and that he expected a good outcome for me.
That's why I asked... it sounded like you were looking for a different doc. We would rather do the drive to Loyola than to see anyone closer to home. Good luck with your doctor hunting ! Ingrid

    Loyola
I go to the Cardinal Bernadin Cancer Center monthly for their SPOHNC group. We occasionally will have a docter on staff as a guest speaker. I wasn't treated there but would not hesitate to go there if need be. I've got to say they impress me more and more with each passing month. Seems like a great head and neck bunch of doctors. They also do the da vinci robot as well.

    Loyola mtgs
Hi ratface (I really feel bad calling you that ?) -- I've seen the flyers about the once a month SPOHNC group meetings. They are always in the evenings and I live 2 hours away-- but my treatments will be all at different times because they are squeezing me in. If I am able to make one of the monthly meetings I will let you know and we can look for each other there. Yes, it's a great place. They have treated me very well considering all the nasty things they HAD to do to me. Yesterday hubby and I actually ran into the current Cardinal (Francis George) by the elevators so I took that as a good sign... like a blessing ! Take care and have good day, Ingrid

    2 hours from Loyola
Hello Rick ! With traffic around here, it takes us about 2 hours one way to get from our home in Huntley, IL to Loyola (on a weekday) with rush hour traffic. If we go mid-day it's more like an hour and a half. But the Loyola docs came so highly recommended that we knew we should go there -- glad we did. Huntley is a suburb of Chicago -- way north and west of the city --- we are very close to the Wisconsin border actually.
